In order to do that:

3. Then tap on Mobile Networks
4. Find the Network mode.
5. Change the Network from 3G to 2G.

A much cheaper solution is to by a 3G/GMS antenna. It is usually quite small and you can put it anywhere in the room. Remember that the higher the antenna is located, the better the signal is. If you need an antenna for a bigger building we would recommend hiring a company which specializes in that field.

You would have to contact an unlocking company or the carrier directly for the unlocking code. Also, browse over to Swappa and check if the phone is blacklisted or blocked on just the carrier's network. Some get blocked on ALL major networks and can only be used outside of the US.

To make your (smart) phone sim lock free, you have to look in your contract how long you have to wait till your provider has to unlock it. This can be one year, sometimes even longer. If you want to unlock it because you want to use sims from another country, when you are on holiday, try to convince the guy on the help desk you want it a bit sooner.
The provider has to give you the unlock code after the time in the contract is over. They don't like that, but they must.
Sometimes you can do it with a simple call, sometimes you have to mail, but they have to unlock the phone. Just look in the contract how you can ask them to do and when.
There are (illegal ?) phone shops that can do the unlock for a certain fee, but that is not allowed and can jeopardise your warranty.
