Why is VMware not recognizing USB devices?

If your VMware Workstation does not recognize USB drive, I have a solution for you. What I would do firstly is shut down the VM and quit VMware Workstation software. Now go to desktop and choose your VMware Workstation shortcut by right-clicking. Run it as administrator. Sometimes even this step can troubleshoot the issue, as it is caused by lack of privileges. Check if the problem is solved. If not, do the following steps: Hit on ? Win + R and type services.msc in the search. Confirm by Enter. Now you have to check if the VMware USB Arbitrator Service is running. If not, you have to right-click on it and choose Properties. The right configuration is: Startup Type - Automatic (and hit on Start to run it). Sometimes you need some extra drivers for USB3.0, that's why USB 2.0 is the best pick for your VM. After you do all the settings correctly, find a reliable VMware backup solution to have the possibility to recover workloads in case of unpredictable issues or system glitches.

Vmware - slow network on Windows 2000

  • First of all, review which network drivers is VMware using, as there are huge differences between drivers, the worst performance-wise is PCNet32 and the best are vmxnet and enhanced vmxnet.
  • Also, check the speed of the NIC, if it is fixed or auto-negotiation mode.

Template can be cloned?

  • A template is just a VM that has been converted into a template, making that VM read-only, and can only be used to deploy new VMs (which will be cloning the template into a VM).
  • In case that a template cannot be cloned because the option is greyed out, you'll have to convert it back to a VM, clone it, and then convert it back to template.

Error vmware does not open Virtual

Thanks for contacting Fixya Support, I am glad to assist.

What appears to be the issue, is that your .vmx (Virtual Machine File extension) which is what how your Windows XP virtual machine terminal launches and works, may possibly be corrupted. I have been using VMWare Fusion for my Macs for nearly 3 years and it is not uncommon for this type of file to become corrupted and fail to launch for no apparent reason.

The usual way to correct this inability to launch issue, is if you can use the VMWare Fusion console to revert back to a previous Snapshot (saved backups or "snapshots" of your previous Windows XP virtual terminal sessions) of that Windows Virtual Machine terminal in order to recover the functionality of the vm.

If you are not familiar with what a Snapshot in VMWare is, then that would mean chances are you have not used that function and therefore you would have no snapshots of any previous Windows XP sessions to revert back to.

If this is the case, the what I can recommend you try, is to reinstall the VMWare Fusion 3 software to overwrite the current copy you have to see if this can help repair your affected Windows XP .vmx file.

If this process does not help, then you may unfortunately have to create a new Windows XP virtual terminal if you have no back ups or Snapshots of previous sessions.

Please feel free to reply back to this post if you have further questions.

Regards,
