The green screw is a grounding screw and the blender will work fine with out it, but it should be grounded with the power cord ground wire secured to the ground screw. Check the other wiring, the ground screw is not why it doesn't work now.
(unless there is another screw involved. The power comes in and goes to the speed control switch)

Blender turns off
I work for Black & Decker appliances and have more than 10 years experience with small appliances.
Anytime you smell something burning while using an appliance that isn't suppose to heat food, something is wrong. You shouldn't smell any foul odors emanating from a blender. The fact that it shuts off while pureeing something as simple as oatmeal indicates that particular blender is defective.
If you contact the manufacture they will be able to inform you as to your warranty eligibility.

When trying to blend things like frozen fruit or
Frozen elements are generally not recommended for blenders of any brand. They may cause the blade assembly to stop moving completely, or to "bog down," and this may eventually damage the motor. It is recommended that frozen fruits and/or yogurt be thawed when possible before placing into a blender. If this is not a possibility for you, I would use a "pulse" or "chop ice" function to rapidly spin the blades for just a moment. This will chop the contents in smaller, more manageable parts. This should be done before adding other liquid ingredients.

Older Vitamix Problem
Hi,
I want you to try this,
1.Remove the blender jar from the blender motor .
2. Check the jar by turning the shaft by hand to see if it rotates easily. .If not, disassemble the blade and ring. Check for obstructions or misalignment. It is better to change the shaft which holds the blade......
If it fails you again, you have to contact with the service center or visit this site
www.vitamix.com/household/service/service.aspHope my info helps you,
Thanx for using fixya,
Waiting to help you from your comments.....

Blade not spinning
My Vitamix 3600 plus has same problem. Result of detachment of rubber coupling between lower splined socket from blade shaft. This is a tough rubber molding that takes tremendous punishment through years of smoothies. Mine showed some rust on the bottom of the blade shaft, where it parted. I tried gluing back together with super glue and tried to eyeball it. Of course it was off by a few degrees. When I reassembled and turned it on, what a racket of vibration! But it held. Amazing. Obviously not good to go though. So I took assembly all apart and redid it, chucking the shaft and the lower nut in the lathe. This time, all true on axis. Glue held for about a week. Right now I am regluing, this time with epoxy. We'll see how it holds up. And meanwhilst, I'm researching replacement parts! I'm not too optimistic about the epoxy.

My B and D BL5000 blender doesn't stop when I press the STOP button. The motor goes when the cord is plugged in. Is this repairable? How? I have looked at the screws to get at it
the lock/unlock button on the Cuisinart Smart Stick CSB-75 blender may not stay locked when pressed in. The solution is to hold the blender in the palm of your dominant hand, press the low or high button and hold, then push and release the lock button on top with a finger on your other hand. The blender motor should start as soon as you push the lock button down and stay running until you release the high or low button.
However, fix.com offers OEM Black and Decker blender parts and accessories, including rubber gaskets, jar bases, measuring cup lid inserts, and blade assemblies. You may want to check if the parts you need are available and replaceable.
If you are unable to repair the blender yourself, you can contact Black and Decker customer service for assistance. They may be able to provide you with additional information on how to repair your blender or direct you to a local repair shop.
