You can typically find replacement carbon brushes for Vitamix blenders at appliance repair shops, online retailers, or directly from Vitamix. Ensure you get the correct model-specific brushes for the VM0145 blender with a 3Hp motor. Double-check the compatibility before purchasing to ensure a proper fit.
Replace the potentiometer with a better one. Do not use the CHEAP PIECE OF CR@P that comes with the blender. For what they charge for these machines, they should be using MUCH better components. I used part RV4N502C-ND from Digi-key as described by another poster for a different model. The knob didn't fit, so I also used Mouser part #5164-1500 knob, which look exactly the same.
It will probably just need the pot replacing, take note of where the wires go. I see someone else here is doing the same job and wants to know where to put them back. Take a photo first saves a lot of grief. The pot is the rotary resistance switch behind the knob.
Check the black driving clutch on the top of the motor that engages with the other clutch half on the base of the blender jug. The fault should be there, normally it will be the motor part.

Shop Vitamix at the Amazon Small Appliance Parts & Accessories store. ... blender on the fritz, PLEASE do yourself a favor and check the old drive socket before buying a whole new blender. .... This fitted perfectly into my vitamix super 5000.
What has worked very well for me in the past in similar situations (not with kitchen appliances but any older item needing a part) is find people selling the item or parts for the item on eBay, and then messaging them asking if they have a source for whatever it is I am looking for.
Almost always this leads to what I need, whether it is for a camera or an old watch or a vintage computer or whatever.
Messaging through eBay is easy, fast, and free.
Simply type Vitamix 4000 in the Search box, and get the listings displayed, and then click on Contact Seller.
eBay will send the message, and notify you when there is a reply.
Some models had a weakness with the variable resistance in the rotary switch but your description sounds more like the main PCB or even the motor both of which are very expensive parts to replace.
Check here for replacement of necessary part to be replaced.
Fairly easy to do. You can find a video on how to replace a vitamix potentiometer or Pot for short, check youtube.

It's probably fine, those motors are very strong. I'd be looking for something like a wire off or broken first. A motor does not often fail without a lot of heat and burning smell.
As the override gizmo will not reset when cooled down you do know that it is faulty so replacing it is going to have to happen anyway if you are repairing it. It may be just that item that's gone bad or it may have been made bad by the motor drawing excessive current. The proper way to check current draw would be by running it through an ammeter. The last thing you want is a faulty motor, they cost a fortune.
You will need to source them from a bearing supply company as Vitamix only supply the bearings as a complete unit with the blade assembled. Once you have the bearings out take the sample with you to the bearing supply company for correct identification.
