Did you tried to plug in the cable in another room, where you are sure that electricity works? How long it is since it last worked? Do you have it under warranty?

Not much. Most people want to buy new medical equipment / environmental control equipment if the original price is under $50 or so. They fear a used piece will be dirty and transmit infection or, less severe but also disturbing, cigarette smoke smell or cat hair. Cleaning costs and time will consume the costs and doesn't justify the risk of buying used. Especially if they have no way to return it if it stops working (or never works).
