Be sure you are booting with the external monitor attached. Some laptops will not automatically switch to an external monitor if it is connected after the laptop is running. After it is running, you will need to pres a function key to switch.

Hi there,
1st thing to try is check that the cable is connected properly at both ends. 2nd check cable for any damage/defects if options 1 has not worked. 3rd, try another cable if you have one. If none of these have worked, then issue is with the monitor itself most likely, you may need to replace it. Also just check your display settings on your pc. You also test another monitor if you have one to rule out any issue with the vga cable. Hope this helps.

Changing g the source on a screen display, lcd or some kind of monitor required changing the monitor settings.
Each monitor has different controls to do this.
To answer this we need to know what monitor you have,

dvi cable most likely will only work as a second monitor rather than as a primary monitor. Suggest checking you computer video card specifications to see if this is the case.

in all power cords - green is ground, and white is neutral. black is always hot.
measuring with a voltmeter, while cord is plugged into the wall socket (presuming power is available in the wall socket), you would measure 115-120 volts across white to black or ground to black.
zero volts between with and green.
