Try wiping the sides with a thin coat of non-stick spray, like Pam or something. Be sure the sides are dry before doing this.

I just had the same trouble after connecting it to my new filtration system. Yes, if you pour water in with a funnel, it will make ice. You need to be wary of overflowing, as it will drip into the ice reservoir, so close the door quickly so overflow will come out the ice dispenser.

I am not familiar with this unit but in guessing but I would not assume the thermistor is bad, actually if as you say the compressor is running that is all the thermistor can do. My first guess is the condenser needs cleaning, that is the area where it gets warm. If that is clean then the possibility of a refrigerant leak is there. If not that then the compressor most likely has a bad valve in it. I would suggest contacting a refrigeration tech after everything has been cleaned and it still does not cool.

Isn't it obvious the compressor isn't running to freeze the water? Make sure the thermostat is working.
