aside from checking connections to see they are right, if using a box remove it and the set from power for a while and then power back to see if it will help or not.
Shutting off
I see so many here with no sound/no picture issues: ISSUES: 1. IF sound main fuse/s are good. 2. If no power or standby check main fuse, standby power supply and any signs of damage you can see---burnt parts etc. 3. almost all these sets the troubleshooting involves
checking voltages on the main power board to narrow down the problem. 4. Be safe and if you do not know what you are doing don't open the set. Answers to issues: 1. RE:fuses---if a blown fuse is found get a good replacement(not the generic ones like Radio Shack). Many fuses are special even aside from amperage--Don't put a higher rated amperage fuse in the set for any reason. 2. RE: power supply in set: if total dead aside from main fuse the set uses a standby power supply that runs 7/24 and a main supply (some are combined and some not. Here aside from checking fuses you want to examine all the filter caps on the power/standby to see if any are puffed up or buldged up in some fashion--I attach a photo of a good one---top should be silver metal and PERFECTLY flat and have no brown material coming out on top or bottom. What happens in the standby area is they use caps with too low a voltage rating (saves money) which causes them to fail in a year or two---the standby runs 7/24 and the heat dries out the caps and they fail. 3. Trouble shooting consists of the above and then at some point you have to buy and try a board to see if it fixes it or not. 4. Safety first--no TV set is worth getting injured or even killed over. If set is opened at least look for puffed up and bad caps like in this photo.
TV turns on in the middle of the night
- If the TV has a timer option, ensure it is disabled.
- Check the remote control to see if any of the buttons are stuck that may be interfering with the TV.
- Unplug the power cord of the TV from the AC wall outlet for 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the AC outlet.
- Attempt to turn on the TV.
- Remove all remote controls from the room where the TV is located.
OR
unplug all HDMI sources to see if a device is sending signals in the middle of the night

Try going to their website and see if they have an update for your TV first. Usually, the update is saved on a flash drive and plugged into the TV to transfer the update. Be sure to PRINT the instructions !!

How to change picture size
You are going to love my answer ---- read the owner's manual. Not all the manufactures have the same procedure for such however it is usually addressable in the setup. I'm not familiar with the brand Toymax but I feel if you look on your remote control, you should locate a setup button. Reading the manual will tell you quickly how to do it. If you do not have the manual, do a search for "owner's manual Toymax Viore 42" plasma TV" at Sears.com web site You will need your model number to get the correct one. That will solve your problem.
Magnavox_37mf231d replaced caps still does not work
Please take this steps on how to determine the problem:1. Open the back cover.2. Check the power supply output...It should have 5vdc for the main board..12vdc or 16vdc for the audio and 24vdc for the back-light inverter..3. If those 3 voltage supplies have encountered voltage drop...The problem could be on power supply board..4. If the power supply output is normal..The problem could be on the main board...5. If the problem is power supply you should check if the capacitors are bulged on the top and try to replaced it..If you can't do that you can purchased new power supply board..6. If the problem is on main board there is no D.I.Y repair on that so you need to buy a new main board that fits to your TV..Hope this solution will be helpful..

Tv turns on but no picture then eventually shuts itself back off
Having to unplug it means the microprocessor in the set is locking up for some reason.more info:Audio but nopictureThis is acommon issue in many LCD or Plasma sets and it does not have a common solution. In most cases you need to first check for missing voltages on the power supply board and for damaged caps there. If good voltages exist then look elsewhere.LCD (not projection) sets often use a back light to provide the light source for the screen unit (display panel) so confirming the voltage for those is first-if back lights are used but not on it is either no voltage, not being turned on by the set, or bad light unit/s.In these sets there are also boards that "Drive" the panel itself. Usually the set will use two boards (some combine both into one large board---names vary but are Inverters, Y-boards (Y means video) T-con boards etc. Usually in this case only one half of the screen will be black but it is possible for it to cause a total loss of brightness also.Plasma sets are similar to some degree but with no back light in most cases.Trouble shooting can be tedious and expensive-Taking one of these sets apart requires some skill as one wrong move and the Display panel can be instantly damaged which is fatal from a repair cost point of view.Other possible solutions include but are not limited to physical problems---loose plugs or connections (look for any plugs held down with tape where they plug into a board). A lot of people with problems play the guessing game-buy and try a board after research which can get expensive and may not fix the set---gamble or not?I have seen sets where every single board was replaced and set still did not have a picture-means display panel is the problem. The problem can even be the "main" board in some cases -it controls the communication with the panel and if faulty can cause issues.Aside from checking voltages, connections etc. there are afew other considerations---The problem can be the display panel itself---Part cost for that is more than the set cost when new.The panel connects to the boards that drive it with either a multi-pin conventional plug or a RIBBON CABLE.The worst case is the problem is a ribbon cable etc. bad or damaged INSIDE the panel where it cannot be got at.That means if the case set would cost too much to repair. The connectors where the cable attaches outside of thepanel can also develop dirty or loose connections.Fans in units that use them can be an issue if dirty or not moving. As you can see (or not if no brightness) the problem sounds simple but has many possible different causes.Let me know if you have questions as I am here to try to help.SD TECH
