No GPS Signal in TomTom One XL all of a sudden
I suddenly lost the GPS signal today and could not get it back. All I got was the "No valid GPS signal". My solution was to tap on the GPS satellite bars when in the route map. this brought up the "Status summary page of the TOMTOM.
I then again tapped the satellite bar which brought up the "GPS Status" page. I then tapped the bar labeled "configure".
The radio button next to the option titled "Minutes (dm.m') was selected. I then moved the selection to "Degrees (d.d) and it started working.
I had just downloaded the GPS fix 5 days ago so it is not like this suddenly caused it to stop working.
This may not work for everyone but this is what it took to get mine working.
Cheers

TomTom 920 GPS Activation code
Unless your TomTom device comes with a "life-time" map, you need (to pay for a map update and) get an activation code everytime to wish to install a new/revised map on your device. You can subscribe to a year of update (i.e. 4 maps updates for the year) and you should be able to update the maps (4 times) after you enter the activation code (once you've paid for the map subscription).
I have a tomtom one europe 22 have a flashing white x in a red o
Usually an X on the screen indicates that your GPS (navigation) software is no good (corrupted, etc.).
If TomTom support is not able / willing to help you to download and install the navigation software, you're likely out of luck. If you are able to re-install the navigation software (& map) and you are still getting the X on the screen (of your TomTom device), it may mean that the (storage) memory on the TomTom device is faulty. You can try to connect your GPS to your computer and see if you can "repair" the TomTom (storage) memory (disk). That would usually just block off the bad areas, so that it will not be used. Then try downloading and installing the software and the map again.

How do i get verbal direction on my tomtom gps
Some TomTom GPS maps include verbal directions for use on certain TomTom models. If your GPS device has that capability, the map that you have on your device should be giving you verbal instructions.
If you don't hear any verbal instructions, check the volume and see if it needs to be turned up.

My tomtom is waiting for valid gps signal
As you probably know, the GPS device needs to get a satellite signal to determine its (your) location, before it can be used.
When the device is having difficulties getting that information, that message is displayed.
A common reason for not being able to get the signal is when there's physical barriers between the device and the satellites, e.g. when you're in a building, under certain covers where there's little/no line of sight between the device and the satellites.
Sometimes, even when this is not the case, the GPS has difficulties getting satellite signals.
So, getting an update (from the tomtom webiste) of the satellite locations can help. Just connect your GPS to the tomtom website, using tomtom HOME (the software), and get the QuickGPSfix update (a very small file) installed on your GPS device. It is suggested you update this data regularly ( as it provides a better location of the satellites, for the GPS device to search)
If you've already done that and the GPS still have problems locating the satellites, try to reboot the GPS. This can be done by holding down the ON/OFF button (for quite a while, e.g. 30 seconds or more) ... to shut the GPS down, and then turn it on again. Or, use a pin (e.g. paper clip) to press the "RESET" pin-hole, to turn it off, and start the GPS device up again.
Hope this helps.

I have a tomtom one n14644 I would like to update it and im not sure how
The usual way to update your TomTom GPS is using the TomTom HOME software that you download and installed on your computer/laptop. Then set up your TomTom account (using the TomTom HOME application) and registered your TomTom device (in that account) on the TomTom webiste
After that, connect your TomTom device to your computer/laptop (using the USB cable). Turn on the TomTom device, and touch the YES icon (on your TomTom screen) if it asks whether you'd like to connect to the computer.
You should be able to see the updates available for your TomTom device (on the TomTom HOME application). Select the updates you want and (download and) install them.
Recently TomTom has stopped providing software/map updates and/or support for certain (older) models of their TomTom GPS. If you see such a notice when you register your TomTom device, your option is to get a newer GPS model (you may even get an offer on the TomTom HOME screen), or you can continue to use your device without updating the software and/or maps until it becomes unhelpful, unreliable, etc.

I go to the start
There's a possibility that the navigation software is corrupted.
Have you tried to recover it from your backup (on your computer) ?
Otherwise, you'll want to use TomTom Home to see if you can download and re-install the software from the tomtom webiste.
Recently, TomTom has decided to limit/stop support (including software/maps, etc.) for certain (older) models of TomTom GPS. If your model is one of those, you're out of luck. TomTom is trying to have you buy a new model.

I have a tomtom 4n00.004.2 when I turn it on it shows the SD icon with a red x over it and it will not allow me to do anything else to it ..what does that mean
When the TomTom navigation software (on your SD card) is bad (corrupted, error) an X is shown on the screen ...
You'll want to try to recover the software from your backup (that you have made on your computer).
If you also have the TomTom navigation software on the main memory, try removing the SD card and start the GPS up again. If that works, you'll want to restore/re-install the copy of the navigation software on your SD card.
Otherwise, you'll need to connect your device to the HOME (or MyDrive Connect) software (on your computer/laptop) to see if you can re-install the software.

I'm assuming you have
- the TomTom HOME (or MyDrive Connect) software installed on your computer/laptop.
- you have a TomTom account and have registered your TomTom device (in that account) on the TomTom webiste
- you are able to successfully plug your TomTom device to your computer/laptop, e.g. using the USB (cable or cradle)
- you can log into your TomTom account and have the TomTom software (HOME or MyDrive Connect) recognize your device (as being connected)
- you see the list of software/data/map updates available for your device
... and you still can't download the software/data/maps ... ? to update your TomTom device ... ?
Have you been able to get any help/support from the TomTom website ?
www.tomtom.com to do this ?

My Go 910 tomtom is frozen and will not go any further please help
If you can't turn it off (to re-boot it) by holding down the ON/OFF button for a while (e.g. 30 seconds or more) another option is to do a "hard reset" ... use a pin (e.g. paper clip) and push the reset (pin-hole) at the bottom of the device, to turn it off.
Then turn the device on again.

I bought a Tomtom 620 and so far I cannot find how I can identify hotels, restaurants, etc on the screen.
You can select the type of POI (points of interest) that you want to display on the screen. Touch the screen to show the menu, and look for the icon to change your preferences. When you get to the icon to select the POI to display on your screen, select the POI you want, e.g. hotels, restaurants, gas station, train stations, etc.
After you've selected it, the icons for hotels/restaurants will be shown on the screen map ... if those POIs are included in the data that came with the map.

Can I take my TomTom 1515 to thUK and download my UK maps
Yes, your GPS device can have more than one map ... assuming there's enough memory (RAM or SDCard) available on your device.
Just copy the map (from your home computer) to the GPS device (memory), then install the map using the activation code (for that map) on your device. After that is done, you'll be able to use the UK maps on the device (by switching map to the UK map, using the navigation software)
