Tec Grilling - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support
When was my TEC II made
From various reviews from folks who own the Patio II, I'm guessing 1998-2000. I have a Patio I that was purchased in 1996. It just died and I purchased a used Patio II so I have been researching this model. Also, found some videos on Youtube from repairing/rebuilding to how to cook on one.
I own the TEC Patio
If you removed the old one, all you need to do, is match the connection of the wire(s) to the old Igniter Module. There should only be one or two wires.
If you have misplaced your Owner;s Manual, I have provided a link.to it, that you can download & print for future reference.

Has Patio II for Grills
Assuming you are talking about the TEC Patio II grill. it is made by the Thermal Engineering Corporation of Columbia South Carolina
http://www.tecinfrared.com/home.php. the burners are sold as complete replacment parts as well as pieces of the burner sold seperately. It has a ceramic insert as part of the infrared burner. You may replace just that portion if that is all that is bad. if this has failed on your grill I would highly suggest spraying the four bolts that hold it in place (visible from the top of the grill with grates removed) with a penetrating oil several times over several days before attempting to remove them. Mine came out just fine and the grill is 12 years old. I love this grill even though there is a built in 12000 dollar grill on my patio.good luck
TEC Sterling II, Pilot light
The gas may not be reaching the burners. Try match lighting a burner to see if it is. If it isn't do the following.
To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:
1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. If you're using as 1 Lb
Canister tank. Turn the valve off and remove the canister.
2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Reinsert the canister.
3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).
4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.
If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's
Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or
hardware store that sells grills & accessories. Or you will have to replace the Canister Assembly. For that you'll have to go to Tec Grills. If you replace it,
turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.
Hope this helped you.
Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling.
I have a Char-Broil Tec
The radient burner most likely has a crack in the top. This will make the pop and the burner will go out. Inspect the top of the burner for any cracks, if you find one, the only solution is to replace the burner. Since these burners get very hot, I do not recommend having the grill lid closed when these burners are being used, this can cause them to overheat and crack the top surface.
