Need a user manual to
Make sure the TAPE2 monitor button is in the OFF position (this is the bottom of two buttons directly to the right of the FUNCTION dial on the face of the receiver) otherwise sound from other sources won't get through. I ran into this when I first set this unit up. Pulled my hair out, until I read through the manual, line by line, and found this (paragraph 1, page12). Hope this helps, and if it does, please come back and tell us. I know it's 2 years after you asked, but the answer might help someone else.
Recently bought a Teac X-10R. It sounds great, but the rewind and fast forward functions have become a little slow. What causes this?
It is amazing all the wrong answers above. The Capstan belt has nothing to do with the fast wind functions and the counter belt being lose will not present a friction either. The likely problem is decayed power supply due to old capacitors. These DC motor are brush types and sometimes they need to be taken apart and the commutator cleaned of carbon packed in the spaces that should be air- they act as shunt resistors stealing power from the fields. I have had a bad transistor or two on the lower aluminum heat sink but checking voltages at the common of the two motors would be of help to see what is happening. I have seen voltages as high as 33Vdc when they are going good- slower speeds are higher loads so the voltage will be less. These motors usually in proper condition can go real fast- in fact there is a circuit in the unit to throttle back drive once the supply motor generates a voltage from it's winding.
I work on these deck all the time and have done it for 45 years.
