Throw it away or use it for parts. It can be anything. You may have cracked the CRT too which is not fixable.

Coax from wall to coax in on VCR and Vcr Coax out to in on set.Whatever channel vcr is on this way it will record and pass to set.Check first you have playback from VCR to TV alone, could have dirty or blocked video heads which in record will just record no watchable picture. Hookup or blocked video heads are most likely.

Check the resistance between collector and emitter. It should never be Zero Ohms.

None of the controls work on the front of the set or what?

What is the model? Practically every tv comes with a remote unless it's before remotes were made.

Most TV shops can test the remote to see if sending by pointing the remote at it and pressing buttons.Many digital cameras in a dark room will react with a tiny flash of light on the camera display when the remote is pointed at it and buttons pressed.The remote may also if not working be repaired by most shops--we get 5 dollars if we can fix one--usually easy money.

Could be something wrong with the tuner inside of the TV.

As there is no 'Menu'button on the front panel of this TV, to select other inputs, you must have a remote control.

It looks like there are a range of values that have been quoted online. It would appear to depend on the make of the universal remote. I have found 456 or 458 stated.If you are using a comcast remote I have seen 0675, 10180 or 10171.
