Does the TS400 need engine oil apart from 2 stroke
Hello. No, the oil mix is designed to do all that is necessary. Stihl 50:1 two stroke engine oil or equivalent is recommended for proper operation, cheap oil does not have the additives needed too keep rings free and inhibit carbon build-up. Also do not use BIA or TCW rated oils, or any others with duel purpose ratings.
Thank you

How do i set up
The ts400 has 2 adjustment screws. First pop out the rubber gromet to see the screws. The one on the left is the mixture, the one on right is the idle Turn the idle screw in a coup[le turns, this will help the saw run a little fast Now screw the mixture screw in till it bottoms .now back it out 1 and a half turn. Press the decom and pull it thru with the , the choke on a couple times, now pull up onthe decom. Try to start it. when it starts, let it runat a fast speed moving the choke off a click or two when the motor warms up, idle the engine as muchas possible, then adjust the mixture screw in or out torun the best. Squeeze the trigger if engine faulters, it's to lean, back mixture screw out slowly, till it suits you. Reinsert the gromet.
Stihl gas powered cut off
It sure sounds like a bearing gone bad or one or 2 of the cap screws at the blade end have come lose or the cap screw closest to user end is stripped.
TS400 ran good now it won't run without the choke
almost guaranteed that the check valves have stuck in the carb. the high speed check valve wont open so it cant get enough fuel. stihl has recently dropped the cost of the carburetors. i would replace before attempting to rebuild it. try arcolawn.com for parts
I need to replace the
This is not difficult. The impulse hose as it is called presses on to a brass fitting under the intake manifold. remover the filter housing, filter, carburetor, and tank as needed to make room to get in and replace it. Parts can be ordered from you local dealer like www.arcolawn.com
Hope it helps

There is no diagram. it is a simple system the coil for the plug has a kill wire that runs up to the thumb switch.
page 31 of the service manual shows the connectors.
Make sure the wires are not rubbed through.

How do i get the lower screws out of the filter
I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. REALLY NO GOOD SOLUTION.. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE ONLY ONE SCREW. I HAD TO PRY COVER OFF AS BEST I COULD WITH THE SCEWS STILL INTACT.EVEN AFTER GETTING THE COVER OFF I COULD NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS WITHOUT POSSIBLY DAMAGING MORE OF THE SAW. I CAN NOW SLIDE THE COVER ON OVER THE PROTRUDING SCEWS AND HOLD IT IN PLACE WITH THE ONE I COULD GET OUT WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM DUCT TAPE. THE WORST DESIGN I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR AN EXPENSIVE TOOL. SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THE TS400. A SIMPLER MORE PRACTICAL DESIGN. I GUESS THEY EXPECT YOU TO REMOVE AND CLEAN AND OIL THESE SCREWS DAILY. PHIL
