Mandy,
I'm not sure of the year of your trimmer but that model in good running condition should sell for around 100 dollars.

Sounds like an over fueling issue, Try resetting the carb to its standard settings, screw both tuning screws right in ant then turn anticlockwise to the following settings H 3/4 of a turn. L 1 full turn. This should set it back to standard. If this doesn't help then it could be a carb diaphram or sticking needle.

There is no absolute requirement to use Stihl fuel though they claim better results, something lots of users agree with.

I suggest you read the manual again to ensure you have exactly followed the instructions. If you did and it won't work there is cause to return it to the dealer. While an older machine often needs fiddling with a new machine should not.

One thought - if the dealer's demonstration was very short so the machine did not warm up thoroughly, it is possible that fouled the spark plug and that would serve to make restarting difficult. It would be wise to check the plug and ensure the spark is ok...

One wire is ignition module kill (primary of a magneto) and the other is ignition module frame (engine block).

The two wires run separate to the kill switch which is a momentary single pole.

Take loose the nut that holds on the flywheel. Then hold the flywheel with a pair of pliers and lift it off of the workbench, make sure the flywheel nut is even with the top of the crankshaft. As not to damage the crankshaft of the threads. Then lightly strike the nut/crankshaft until the flywheel comes loose. It should only take a couple of taps.

make sure your air gap from the coil to the flywheel magnet is .010. if it is then take the ground wire off the coil and see if you have spark then. if you do then your ground wire is grounding out somewhere. process of elimination form the coil to the switch.

handles have to be removed first

Stihl Saws | Answered on Nov 20, 2019

Set the gap between coil and flywheel to 0.010 inches, if possible disconnect the stop wire from coil to eliminate that part of the circuit. If spark, reconnect stop wire and check again with stop switch in the on position, should still have spark. If not there is a short in the stop circuit.
