I don't think taking it apart will help - when staples don't bend behind the papers, assuming the correct staples are used, it is usually either the anvil is worn or there is some misalignment between the staple and the anvil. The anvil is usually the part that wears out first, fortunately many office staplers use a dual anvil that can be turned around to select the staples being bent outwards. This position is ideal when the staple will need to be removed at a later date. Staples are usually produced with a sharp square end to each leg that after a few thousand staples will have done some damage to the anvil or a few hundred if the anvil had slipped through unhardened. I suggest you take a look under strong light and magnification and compare it with that of a working stapler...

Yes it does. However, opening it up to get to the fuse will void your warranty. After ensuring the shredder is unplugged and you are at a point where you are out of warranty, the shredder can be opened, the shredder engine and blade assembly can be carefully removed and you can see the fuse. Be wary of the shredder blades at all times.

IF YOU LOOK INTO THE SLOT WHERE YOU FEED THE PAPER...GET A FLASHLIGHT ........IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SLOT YOU WILL SEE A TINY SWITCH. THAT THING SOMETIMES GETS GUMMED UP WITH GLUE FROM ENVELOPES AND SUCH... TRY SOME WD-40 ON THAT SWITCH... WITH THE MACHINE UNPLUGGED PUT PAPER IN THE SLOT TO MOVE THE SWITCH SO THE WD-40 CAN LOOSEN UP ANYTHING .... THEN TRY BLOWING AIR IN IT.... ARE YOU SURE THAT THE TOP OF THE SHREDDER IS SITTING FLUSH WITH THE PORTION IT RESTS ON??? THAT COULD ALSO MAKE IT NOT WORK..... OR IF THE BASKET NEEDS EMPTYING THE TOP WONT REST FLUSH ON THE BASKET.

Paper shredders sometimes have a mechanical switch sch as what you were looking for but others have laser interrupters that sense when a paper is put in the slot. You are on the right track looking for a sensor problem. As for opening it, if you cannot find screws to remove, look for labels that may peel up and have a screw under it. Sometimes rubber grommets and bumpers can be removed and you will find screws under them. Sorry I cannot give you specifics because I don't know specific machine but I have found that they disguise the screws with peel labels often. Hope that helps.
