Make sure the MUTE function has not been activated. Try turning up the volume level. Check that there are no headphones connected. Check if the issue also occurs to other device connected to the TV.

Take it to a Sony Authorised Service Centre for an opinion but I dare say it has had liquid damage and conductive material has impregnated the driver board connected to the screen.

This sounds like a backlight issue....... If you shine a torch light into the screen do you see a faint picture? If yes then definitely a backlight issue but it could be the led backlights blown or the T-con board, further tests would be required to determine which.

As there could be so many different part numbers within even the same model TV you will need to take the old part out and read the part number directly from that.

Problem is a bad capacitor on the power board. Caution if repairing yourself as capacitors in TV's hold a charge long after set is powered off and can be lethal.
When looking at your power board for a bad cap look at the top of the capacitors. A bad cap will have a noticable "bulging" on the top of it compared to others. Be sure to note polarity of capacitor (will have a "-" on one side indicating negative. To fix on/off issue simply unsoldered bad capacitor and solder in a new one with same voltage and capacitance rating being sure the new capacitor is oriented the same as the old one was before it was removed.

Sony Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some projection models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 (flyback transformer), or the associative components in the high voltage circuits are defective on the D board.
