Im having trouble playing back my tapes on my sony

This is usually caused by an oxidized or defective Audio/Video drum. Try running a cleaning tape through the camera. If this does not solve the problem the camera will need to be serviced by a qualified service technician.

I have a new A1U, a new I Mac, and final cut pro

You cannot transfer video from camcorder. You should "capture" it from the camcorder using Imovie. To do this select the capture from camera option in imovie and allow it to capture the entire video(it will take a while). When its done, use the save option to save the video to your hard drive. Not that that you cannot capture video from the USB port. You should have a firewire card installed on your MAC and should use the firewire port on it to capture video,

Hi,

Sony is pretty secretive about the :23 code. It can't be found anywhere. However, to service the C:31 code, Sony recommends you do the following:

  1. Turn off the camcorder.
  2. Remove the battery or disconnect the AC power adapter for 60 seconds.
  3. Insert the battery or reconnect the AC adapter.
  4. Turn on the camcorder.
  5. If the error message appears, service may be required.
OR

This may seem silly, but it worked for me. I found this on another discussion forum. Try smacking the side of the camera relatively hard with the palm of your hand. Eject the tape and reinsert. You may need to do this a couple of times. Surprisingly it worked for me

Hope this is helpful

You will need a cleaning cassette- the same type that you record on, but with a cleaning tape in it instead of recording tape.

Sony A1U video camera won't turn on with AC or

The flash of the led indicated a hardware fault on the camera. It shutsdown itself to protect itself from further damage. Try to attach a different battery pack and try to see if this solves the problem. Otherwise, you need to bring this to an authorized Sony Service center.

I have a Sony HVR Z1U camera that has been working

It could be as simple as the battery contacts in the camcorder being slightly oxidized. Clean them with a qtip and at least 90% isopropyl alcohol to ensure they're making contact. When I accidentally cleaned the mode sensor in a vcr, it messed it up for about a day before it started working again, so I'm wondering if somehow this effected your camcorder. It shouldn't, but with a wet cleaner, I suppose it could.
Do any old tapes play? If they don't, there can be a door sensor that's dusty or not making contact. Did the cleaning tape spring the door to some degree? Just brainstorming here, as I'm not sure what's going on. If a head broke, that could be detected and shutting down the machine- inspect the head with a magnifier.
Couldn't find this problem on the web, so hope something here helps. Good luck, and thanks for using FixYa.

It sounds like you are using an aftermarket (non-sony) battery pack. The camcorder you are using probably requires the Genuine Sony 'Infolithium' Battery pack (usually in the box of the camera). If you are getting this message with the proper battery installed, i would contact SONY
