It could be the machine is trying to return but is not successful. Help the carriage by hand up against the left margin, and see if this helps. Sometimes the centrifugal clutches on the motor need replaced, and sometimes the belts can cause this. Either way, you will probably not be able to fix it yourself.

You may have bad feed rollers, or they may not be engaging the platen as they should for one reason or another. A common cause for this is if the paper tray is not installed correctly. If you can remove the platen, check that the guide fingers on the paper pan are situated on the rests made for them. Also make sure the platen is snapped in place all the way if this is the snap in kind. Hope this helps.

Hi: you should be able to do it yourself. Flip the typewriter up on its end. As you can see all the typebars are connected in the same way.
You need to find the sub link that popped of the I typebar. It might be bent. Move the two keys that are adjacent to the letter I and you should be able to find the sub link that came off. Straighten it out and use a flat tip screw driver to open the clip on the end of the sub link and connect it back on the end of the typebar.

Good Luck

Andrew

What model Smith-Corona manual typewriter?

Smith Corona... | Answered on Apr 01, 2013 | 37 views

You probably have a broken plastic gear on the index motor. If you have a warranty nreturn the T/W as the part is about 35.00 without installation.
