How do I change the

If you don't have the print instructions for your lock, go to this web page:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13

On the grid, go across from L1000 to the "Manuals" column & click on PDF, which will download the file of the manual for your lock.

If you cannot open the file to view it, you need to install Adobe Reader first. You can get the download (free) from here:

http://get.adobe.com/reader/

Now you should have the manual for reference.

Someone else who was wanting to change the handle sent me this information:

"I've got a Simplex L1000 series combination that needs the Outside Lever Assembly-Right Hand and Outside Sleeve Assembly changed on it. I have the parts needed but I can't figure out how to remove the Outside Lever from the Front Lock Housing.

I had the original question. For others viewing and needing the answer it's as follows: After looking and removing the internal parts I still couldn't find the solution, so I ended up sending it to a locksmith to replace the parts. They told me later that ALL internal parts from the Front Lock Housing needed to be removed, then rotate outside lever 180 degrees. Using spanner wrench depress the front knob retainer, then outside lever should slide off. Remove Drive Assemply and Front knob retainer from rear of front lock housing. *The key was rotating the lever 180 degrees. Nowhere in the directions was this mentioned nor was it mentioned in the email reply I received from Simplex.. So for all you out there, Good Luck! And make sure to add this key step to your directions."

As you will find in the manual, you need a special spanner wrench for this operation.
The spanner wrench (SMPBC201278 Simplex:SpannerWrench $9.00) referred to can be purchased from this site:

Did a hard reset on

The EPS2000 is a self powered lock. It takes activation of the lever 3 times to power up the lock to enter the master codes. (see N-3 below)

Also note the NUMBER sequence of X-4 below in small print....when performing Diagnostics.

Here is the manual:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/access_download.aspx?File=e2000_operations_manual_pk_3173.pdf&Attachment=True

N. TESTING THE OPERATION OF THE LOCK

N-1 Rotate inside lever and hold. Ensure that the latch is fully retracted and

flush with the latch faceplate. Release the inside lever; the latch should be

fully extended.

N-2 For E-Plex PowerStarâ„¢, you need to activate the outside lever 3 to 4 times

to power the lock prior

N-3 If your product is an E2xxx, enter the factory-set combination:

1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. If your lock is a PowerStar Version, rotate the outside lever

3 times to charge the lock, then enter 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8. You should see a

green light and hear a high pitched tone as you push each button. When the

lock opens, you will briefly hear the sound of an electronic motor. Rotate

outside lever and hold. Ensure that the latch is fully retracted and flush

with the latch faceplate. Release the outside lever; the latch should be

fully extended. When the lock re-locks, you will again hear the mot or.

N-4 If your product is an E24xx, you will have to generate an access code

using the web application to test the lock operation.

N-5 With the door open, verify functionality of the mechanical Key Override as
detailed in Section F.

After doing the above it still does not work try the diagnostics

X. PERFORM MANUAL DIAGNOSTICS

Use the Diagnostic Code to perform manual diagnostics of the lock, green LED,

red LED, buzzer, and the twelve pushbuttons - 0 through 9, * and #.

Required User Level: Master

X-1 Put the lock into Pushbutton Programming Mode.

X-2 Enter Command 500# for Diagnostics.

X-3 You will see a green LED and hear a high beep followed by a red LED and

a low beep.

X-4 Enter 123456789*0#, in that order exactly, to test each pushbutton. If

every pushbutton is working correctly, you will see a green LED and hear a

normal beep for each pushbutton that is pressed.

X-5 Example of Complete Entry: 500#123456789*0#.

X-6 Enter another # to indicate the end of programming.

X-7 If you see a red LED at any time you are pressing a pushbutton, or at the

end of the code, there could be a problem with the pushbuttons.

X-8 Try the Diagnostic Code again, 500#123456789*0#, to be sure you

entered all the numbers correctly and in the correct order.

X-9 Enter another # to indicate the end of programming.

X-10 If you still see the red LED, the lock has a problem. Call a service person
to repair or replace the lock.

Installation instructions:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/access_download.aspx?File=e2000_installation_instructions_pkg_3218.pdf&Attachment=True

Quick reference chart:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/access_download.aspx?File=e2000_quick_reference_guide_pk_3172.pdf&Attachment=True

Between the 3 manuals and the diagnostics you should be able to make this work.

I was changing the combination

I suggest trying this:
Go to the Literature Grid:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13
and hover your mouse over PDF under the TIPS (rightmost) column for the L1000
Then click on the lower choice that pops up: "How to Reset a Lost or Unknown combination....."
Yow will then download the file with the instructions that you need. This is a PDF file; if it won't open for you, you need to download and install Adobe Reader (it's free):
http://get.adobe.com/reader/

If you are not successful, please contact the Tech Suport for Kaba-Ilco:

Technical Support (Simplex, E-Plex, PowerLever, 4000 Series, Solitaire 850L, Solitaire 850/950)

I hope this helped. Good luck!

Opens with out a code and can not get it to stop

I THINK that the problem you describe is because the lock is in "Zero Code":
"If your lock is opening on every turn of the knob or lever, except upon entering a code, this may be a ZERO CODE."
Go to this web page:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13
and position your mouse on PDF under the "TIPS" (rightmost) column on the grid line for the L1000.
Two choices will pop up; click on the upper one "Changing the code/Combination...." and download and open this file.
If it does not open, you need to download and install Adobe Acrobat on your computer from here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/ It's free!

When you get this document open, you will see the statement that I quoted from the top about the Zero Code. At the bottom of the document you will see:
Troubleshooting
Symptom/problem: Outside knob/lever when turned always retracts latch without depressing
any buttons.
Cause: Lock is in zero combination.
Solution: Follow the procedure for changing a combination except omit step 3 (do not enter
the existing combination).

One last nasty piece of information: If you don't have the necessary DF-59 Key or spanner wrench mentioned in the procedure, you can get either from these sources:

Key:
http://absupply.net/kaba-access-control-lock-1000-series-key-df59.aspx

The spanner wrench (SMPBC201278 Simplex:SpannerWrench $9.00) referred to can be purchased from this site:
http://www.ckilock.com/Mpage18.asp

Whew! That was a lot of stuff, to digest, so I hope it helps. Good Luck!

I haven't worked on a Unican lock for some

It appears you use the installation spanner wrench on the barrel to unlatch the clip. See this parts link:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/access_download.aspx?File=simplex_1000_parts_price_kaa_1099.pdf&Attachment=True

If I got the model number wrong go to this page:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13
Find the correct model number. There are mauals for installation and parts. Where you see PDF you have to roll the cursor over the the pdf to get parts manuals (first choice)

Where it says manual you just have to click the pdf link.

This is were I read about the clip: (page 18)
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/access_download.aspx?File=simplex_1000_installation_instructions_pkg_2280.pdf&Attachment=True

I don't know if you are dealing with the Model 1000, L1000, or LP 1000, but regardless, you'll see a grid for these various model on this page. The information you need is most probably under the rightmost column, TIPS. When you click on that you'll pop up a further choice of how to change or reset the combination.

You will find that you need a DF-59 key as part of the process. I believe a Df-59 key can be purchased at this site:

My lock is not working.

The mechanism is not removable for the outside, for that would defeat the purpose of the lock if any would-be entrant could just do that!

I am including a link to the grid of information for the L1000 lock, where you can find PDF links to the Manual, Parts List, and Tips. Tips has reprogramming and troubleshooting information.

In order to view PDF files, you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. There is a link to get Adobe Reader on the Literature Grid Page:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13

I found this instruction elsewhere on the FIXYA site ( thanks to pctuneup191):

PROCEDURES TO CHANGE THE COMBINATION OF SIMPLEX 1000 SERIES CIPHER LOCKS

1.) ENSURE THE DOOR IS OPEN.

2.) INSERT THE DF-59 CONTROL KEY INTO THE COMBINATION CHANGE PLUG ASSEMBLY (ON THE BACK OF THE

DOOR) AND UNSCREW THE CYLINDER BY TURNING THE KEY COUNTERCLOCKWISE.

3.) TAKE THE CHANGE PLUG ASSEMBLY COMPLETELY OUT OF THE DOOR.

4.) TURN THE OUTSIDE DOOR KNOB CLOCKWISE ALL THE WAY UNTIL IT STOPS, THEN RELEASE THE KNOB.

5.) PRESS IN THE EXISTING COMBINATION FIRMLY.

6.) INSERT THE SPANNER WRENCH IN THE COMBINATION CHANGE SLEEVE. IT SHOULD INSERT AT THE NINE

O'CLOCK POSITION.

7.) TURN THE SPANNER WRENCH GENTLY CLOCKWISE UNTIL IT STOPS AT THE 12 O'CLOCK POSITION. NOTE

THE NOTCHES IN THE COMBINATION CHANGE SLEEVE MOVES AS THE SLEEVE IS MOVED.

8.) TURN THE SPANNER WRENCH COUNTERCLOCKWISE BACK TO THE NINE O'CLOCK POSITION UNTIL IT STOPS.

REMOVE THE SPANNER WRENCH.

9.) TURN THE OUTSIDE DOOR KNOB CLOCKWISE (ALL THE WAY, UNTIL IT STOPS), THEN RELEASE.

10.) INSERT THE NEW COMBINATION BY PRESSING IN THE BUTTONS. USE AT LEAST three numbers and a

maximum of five.

11.) TURN THE DOOR KNOB CLOCKWISE ONCE, ALL THE WAY, UNTIL IT STOPS. HOLD IN THIS POSITION AND

CHECK IF THE LATCH IS RETRACTED.

12.) RELEASE THE DOOR KNOB.

13.) TURN THE DOOR KNOB CLOCKWISE ONE MORE TIME TO THE STOP POSITION. AT THIS POINT, THE LATCH

SHOULD NOT RETRACT UNLESS YOU USE THE NEW COMBINATION.

14.) REINSERT THE CYLINDER INTO THE BACK OF THE DOOR BY SCREWING IT IN CLOCKWISE WITH THE DF-59

CONTROL KEY (DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN!)

REMOVE THE KEY.

A Df-59 key can be purchased at this site:

http://absupply.net/kaba-access-control-lock-1000-series-key-df59.aspx

I changed the batteries then

The Unican 1000 locksets are pushbutton locks and do not use a card for access. I think you may not have referenced the proper model that you are having problems with.

I'm including a link to Kaba Ilco products page where you can research your model of lock:

http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/products/eplex.aspx?id=6

You may find that your lock is under the E-Plex series, which use card access.

Also to be found on that page is a link to "Literature and Support" which you can expand to take you to the proper information grid for your model of lock.

The Literature Grid contains links to PDF files which have headings for the Manual, Parts List, Instructions Charts, etc. The Instructions Charts may be of most interest to you because they contain troubleshooting information.

In order to view these PDF files,, you will need Adobe Reader installed on your computer. There is a link on the Grid page to Adobe Reader if you don't already have it installed.

Near the top of the Literature Grid page you will find a link called "Contact Us", and under that link you will find links to Customer Service and Support and Technical Support which will allow you further assistance by Kaba Ilco support, either by email or by calling them toll-free.

I hope this information helps. Good luck!

Iv'e got a Simplex L1000

Here is a link to the Kaba Ilco web page which has a grid chart, including the L1000 series lock:
http://www.kaba-ilco.com/access_control/literature/literature_grid_mechanical_pushbutton_locks.aspx?id=13

Of particular interest to you will be the Manual (page 10) and Parts List, which shows an exploded view of the lockset. Hopefully this will give you the info that you need.

On the same webpage you will also find a link "Contact Us" for further technical information and parts.
Also on that page is a link to get Adobe Reader. If you don't already have it installed on your computer, you will need it to open the PDF files for the manual and parts list.
