I dont know where to start on how to use this
Using a Canon flash gun on a Nikon body is going to give all kinds of problems. Best way is to set everything to manual, then experiment until you obtain the result you are after.
I use a 28 -200mm Sigma Aspherical on my Sony
Unless you're a qualified lens specialist with dust-free laboratory conditions, correct tools, alignment equipment etc, not advisable.
Rather take it in to a pro for assessment and quote.
If you're lucky, they may be able to diagnose the fault and give you a rough quote.
Sounds like internal gearing is worn / loose.
Has lens ever been dropped?
My Sigma SD9 rapidly drains
For any camera, you need high power re-chargeable batteries - 2300 mAh or 2500 mAh. Try with a set of those. I have heard Eneloop suggested, but have no experience myself.

Would it not have been a good idea to check the two items were compatible prior to purchasing the camera ?
My sigma 50-500 lens is lock in 500mm position
I believe on some Sigma lenses there is a switch to lock it in a 'Macro' position, usually at the long end of the zoom range. If this applies to your lens, it may be worth checking that this has not been accidentally set. There may also be some information in the manual whichcame with the lens.
