How do you take a sm85 microphone apart

Unscrew the top portion with your hands to expose the capsule. The connector at the bottom is unscrewed with either a small phillips or slot screwdriver.

I also, have a shure microflex 150 condenser mic. We use it at the pulpit of our church for 2 years at least. The mic went dead. I replaced the 185 cartioide cartridge but the mic is still dead. D

It sounds like somebody turned off the phanton power on the mixer. Bring the main volume all the way down and turn it on, that should resolve the problem.

Why.....my two brand new Shure pg27's are BOTH dead...can I be THAT unlucky?? Or just dumb. I'd RATHER be dumb, hopefully I'm doing something wrong....but I'm trying to record with them in my Zoom R16

The Shure PG27's are condenser mics. They need power. Since the mics don't have a battery compartment then the power has to come from the mixing console. Have you switched on 48V Phantom power?

I hear a white noise when I connect microphone with mixer (Behringer DX2000)

You posted this in questions about the Shure PG42 mic. That mic comes in two versions. There's the USB version which connects direct to a PC. Then there's the standard version which is used with a mixer. I presume you have the standard version as the Behringer doesn't have inputs for USB mics. The standard version is a condenser mic. It needs power. The power is supplied by the mixer. It is known as phantom power because it travels up the mic cable from the mixer to the mic.
  • Make sure your mixer has phantom power switched on.
  • Use the correct mic cable: Either a 3 pin XLR to 3 pin XLR, or a 3 pin XLR to 3-pole jack (TRS). The leadis a balanced mic cable
  • Check the setting on the mic for attenuation. 0dB is no reduction in signal level. 20dB is a large reduction
  • Look at the Behringer's settings. Make sure you know what each control does and how it affects the sound. Pay particular attention to the effects send and return (FX SND RTN)
Most times there's an issue with no sound from a mic, it's usually down to a poor quality or broken cable; or no power; or the settings on the mixer.
