No use on fixing the oven. They cost $150-300 so why bother?

Sounds like the capacitor inside by the transformer exploded. It's an easy fix. just replace the capacitor.

Hello, Derek - Is the Sharp Convection Grill Microwave either model R-820JS or R-820BC? If so . . . The cooking directions begin on Page 24 of the Operation Manual. If you do not have the manual, you can find it as a PDF document (Adobe Reader software needed - free) to download for free here: http://kitchen.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/sharp/r820js_r820bc_1.html The cooking instructions start on Image 27 of the PDF document and run through Image 30 (Page 26.) I would choose the convection cooking temperature for either Frozen Convenience Foods or Pies, Frozen Prepared. Best wishes.

I would guess that the boiling water may not have been the cause ... If you are lucky ... try this first: Unplug or turn the circuit breaker off (if it is a built in unit). Wait an hour and then repower. Odds are that will not clear things up ... but it is easy to try. Probably one of the electronic internals broke. A number of different internal component problems could cause this heating failure in the microwave. It could be the magnetron, the high voltage transformer, the PC board, the diode, and the capacitor. This type of problem will need to be diagnosed and repaired by a service technician. Microwaves are inherently dangerous to service. This type of repair is not something that you want to try to do yourself. Internal capacitors in the microwave can retain a lethal electrical charge even when the microwave is completely unplugged. A microwave radiation leakage test should be performed on the unit using proper testing equipment following any internal component repair.

Assuming your hinges are tight, your bottom door switch is probably defective, or its mount is loose, misaligned, or broken. Any repair on any electrical appliance should be done with the plug removed from the power socket. Microwave ovens are dangerous and has been known to kill people. Rather be safe than sorry. If a fuse is suspected, make sure to unplug first. It should be discharged as it can, even after switching off, cause a very nasty shock.

Verify 15 or 20 amp fuse is good use a multimeter check continuity if no meter replace fuse to rule out it's got to be a power problem.

I typically find it is not door hinge issues but door switch issues, especially with sharp. You may heve a little movenent in the door hinge and that is allowing the door hook to move up and down on the plunger for a door switch that is probably a bit melted due to bad connections. If you check the door switches and look for any browning around the terminals where the wires push onto the switch you will probably find an overheated connectoion. Replace the bad switch and run better wires and better termninals to the new switch and it will probably be fine.

Changing the light bulb on your Sharp carousel microwave will allow you to have needed light inside the oven. Microwaves are not designed for consumers to change the light bulb due to manufacturer liability, but it can be done. Following the proper steps will ensure a successful installation. Step 1 Unplug the Sharp carousel microwave from the electrical outlet. Step 2 Locate the screws around the outer cover of the Sharp carousel microwave and unscrew all the screws. Step 3 Lift off the covering. Step 4 Locate the bulb and unscrew. Screw in your new bulb. Step 5 Replace the cover and screw back tightly. Once done, test your new bulb.

Possibly a bad oven temp sensor. If the uinit doesnt read a temperature it will shut down to prevent a fire or over heating. The temp sensor is a thermister A temperature variable resistor that changes value as the temp changes. so If the main board doesnt get a response within a vertain resistance range it shuts things down. Sometimes since those parts are in the actual cooking area and subject to the heat and steam from cooking they can rust and break, or just get old and break. Or slam the door and break, you get the idea!!
