Sounds like more of a circuit/logic board problem than a motor..over the last 10+ years I've delt with a lot of openers that have had surge or lighting damage but never have had a motor go bad.

The green eye receives the the signal from the Amber side. When is not on the sensors won't work. As far as the cold chamberlain did have a few issues with sensors not working or intermediate issues in cold weather. Their solution was to replace the sensors. But before you do that check everywhere the wires are stapled. Make sure that they are not pinching the wires.

IF THE MOTOR IS JAMMED (JUST HUMS) LOOSEN THE CHAIN AND ADJUST THE LIMITS AND TIGHTEN CHAIN. IF THE MOTOR ACTUALLY RUNS AND THE CHAIN DOES NOT MOVE THE DRIVE GEARS NEED TO BE REPLACED. THEY SELL A KIT THAT INCLUDES THE BUSHINGS AND SHAFT. DO NOT BUY THE SMALLER KIT AND DO NOT REPLACE ONLY ONE GEAR (THE OLDER WORN GEAR WILL CHEW UP THE NEW GEAR) THIS MAY BE WHAT YOU HAD DONE - IF SO CALL THE SERVICE GUY THAT DID THE POOR REPAIR AND HE SHOULD REPLACE BOTH GEARS UNDER HIS SERVICE WARRANTY. There may be a switch up by the lights, it may just not be set to turn on when the door opens. Also I found on mine, the opener attached to the wall in the garage has a button that turns the lights on and off.

An easy fix would be to check the batteries. I apologize if this is something you have already tried, but sometimes people just do not think of something that can be so easily overlooked. It could be that your electric eye has something blocking it and it senses that something is in the way. The eye is usually located about 18" above the floor on one side of the door and points over to a receptor on the other side of the door. Make sure that they are lined up properly, one may have been bumped.

What symptoms? If remote, replace battery. Might need to get it to relearn the frequency. There should be a learn button on the motor (depends on type of opener).

These remotes don't loose the programming code when a battery goes dead, most likely the remote or the board on the opener went bad, do any other remotes work? You can take the remote to an auto parts store and test it there. How do we reprogram the remote?

1st, try replacing the battery in the remote. If that doesn't work, you will need to replace the logic board on the opener, which is typical in the craftsman openers.

you are getting a break in power somewhere, perhaps a bad circuit board in the motor itself. the least expensive is to try a new remote.

Check to see if sensors (eye) on sides of door are lined up, they need to be looking directly at each other. If that doesn't work change sensors, simple, install, hook up 2 wires per sensor, wire with line to same wire, blank wire to same blank wire and align so sensors see each other. The gears are all the same with the exception of the belt drive units that have a different top sprocket , you can find the part # on the internet simply by putting in the model # of your opener and identifying whether you have a belt drive or chain drive machine , you can also find the part on Ebay by putting sears/liftmaster or chamberlain sprocket gear assembly in the description ....All 3 of those models are made by Liftmaster being the main Brand ! Liftmaster manufactures the sears craftsmen for Sears and also goes under the chamberlain brand name that k mart and Home depot and Lowes sells ! It is in lock mode. press and hold the lock button for 3 second and it will unlock.
