I have this seagate momentus hard drive, i had windows home buitin and then i upgraded to 8, after that i formatted my reserved and recovery parttion as i wanted a clean intallation and now i cant see

First off....8 is not an upgrade, Win 10 is an upgrade. Forget looking for any data from your old hard drive as it has been written over and you cannot retrieve it any longer. Just obtain a copy of Windows Ten or pay for a new updated disc. Let Windows format the hard drive and install itself for you.

Cannot boot from Momentus Ultra ATA 160 GN HDD

it can only clone the windows files and folders there is other files located on a hidden system on the hard drive, when you install and new hard drive these file are fixed to the drive. to make a bootable drive you need to install these files from a windows disc then add clone files over the top so these files don't get deleted.

I have a seagate momentus

Configuring the BIOS
After completing the drive installation, restart your computer. Your computer
may automatically detect your new drive. If your computer does not
automatically detect your new drive, follow the steps below.
1. Restart your computer. While the computer restarts, run the system
setup program (sometimes called BIOS or CMOS setup). This is usually
done by pressing a special key, such as DELETE, ESC, or F1 during
the startup process.
2. Within the system setup program, instruct the system to auto detect
your new drive.
3. Save the settings and exit the setup program.
When your computer restarts, it should recognize your new drive.
That should work ya long haired hippie. give me a shout this weekend, M.Y. (puff puff pass *****!)

Can you hear the motor spinning when you turn it on? If not and If the HDD is old, I'm guessing the electronic is dying and it is no longer operational
