The bulb broke in my Roper oven and I can't get the rest of it out.

* Call for service! High voltage(s) present! *** The following is for information only. *** * Remove oven and unplug. (Yes, you could trip out the breaker. But do you know enough to turn off the right one? Remember, you will be sticking something is a live socket.) * Following is very dangerous! Use the back end of a rubber handled screw driver. Wear a glove and don't touch the metal parts of the oven with your other hand. Use dry towels if needed, to place around the oven door if you have to lean in. Remove all metal shelves. A small wooden handle (from a plumber's helper) can also substitute as well (if it's dry!) * I'm guessing the bulb cracked or broke off the metal screw In base. With power OFF (you will be smashing the wires to the bulb that will probably short out.) Insert the blunt end (Handle side) into the light socket. Use a smaller handle if it does not fit. A broom handle should fit perfect. Press hard enough to get a grip and twist counter-clockwise to loosen the base. You may need to twist slowly back and forth to get the handle to 'bite' into the base. Be careful as the base comes out that you use a gloved hand to unscrew the base the rest of the way. * This method works most of the time. Though it will not work on shorted/melted bulbs. This is caused by a bulb that was not seated properly and 'arced' welded the base to the contacts of the socket. This requires a complete replacement of socket and bulb. * Final; Check your warranty as working on the oven may void it. Warranty periods may last years, so check first. Be safe and call your vendor for service. Aloha, ukeboy57 PS; Though I don't think they use LEDs lamps INSIDE the oven as the heat will destroy them. But if it is an LED lamp then this method will not work. Call for service and replacement.

How to locate fuse in Roper microwave model No. MHE14XKB

After removing the cover (most microwaves use security screws) the fuse will be on the circuit board near where the power cord connects. It will look like a glass fuse but is made of ceramic. Most have pigtail leads and are soldered directly to the board. Do not ever operate a microwave with the cover off.

How do I clean between the glass and mesh on my roper microwave oven

That I would leave up to the professionals. If you are geting moisture or debris inside the glass then it is malfunctioning and needs professional repair. Call the service phone number locatedin the manual or in back of unit. These emit dangerouse uv rays that can harm you if leaking at the door. Never operate if you suspect it is not sealing properly.

I can't figure out how to get my older roper microwave off the wall

If there is a grill above the door, remove it. There will be two long screws that attach the unit to a metal plate. The metal plate is bolted to the wall. Once you loosen the long screws, the unit will tilt down and come off the wall.

This will open a new web browser page automatically for you and allow you to view the information at the website indicated and the contents of the Manual.See page 28 (Section 3-8) of the service manual for detailed instructions and illustrations about how to access and replace the fuse on that unit. Please make sure that the unit is unplugged before attempting any repair procedures. These appliances can be very dangerous to work on even after they are unplugged due to the high voltage components inside like the large capacitor. Please do not attempt any disassembly or repairs unless you are very familiar with the electrical saftey precautions necessary. All works except turn table and will not heat

Check the Main fuse inside the oven. And check the cause why it trip.
if it fused then check the transformer physically for sign of burnt.
I all above things okay. Then you need DMM to check the resistance of magnetron(oven has 5000 v in it even unpluging from main)(please dischage capacitor if you want to live more).
Thanks
Please rate my work

MY ROPER MICROWAVE NOT GETTING

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

When everything but the heat works there are 2 common components that fail. The high voltge capacitor or the high voltage diode. In rare cases the magnetron fails because the oscillator in the top of the magnetron sticks. When the oscillator sticks the magnetron makes a LOUD humming sound and you do not get heat. However.... a open diode or shorted capacitor will make the exact same sound briefly before the main in line / internal fuse fails.

The capacitor and diode are items 4 and 9 this link:
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=504310&diagram_id=28243249#d28243249

NOTE: Before doing ANY maintenence you must hold an plastic handle screwdriver back on the handle and ground the capacitor terminals at least 3 times. (Just in case it has not failed.)
Failure to do so will ruin your day and pass along one heck of a shock.

To check the diode you must disconnect one terminal first. The read it with a meter. Reverse the leads and check continuity again. It should read continuity in ONE direction / polarity only. Id should NOT read open both ways or shorted both ways.

To check the capacitor you have to remove all the terminals from ONE side of the capacitor terminals. With the meter on R X 10,000 probe the 2 terminals. You should see a brief jump in resistaqnce and then the meter drifts to infinty. Reverse the leads and do this again. You must get the same jump in resistance and then the meter drifts to infinity. If it does not do this it has failed and must be replaced.

If both the diode and the capacitor pass the checks above the next step is to check the magnetron for continuity across the 2 terminals. It must read continuity. Even if this test passes the oscillator can be stuck and it will not heat. (Again if it is stuck it will make a LOUD humming noise.) It is not repairable.

I suspect you either have a bad diode (most probable cause) or bad capacitor (2nd most probable cause).

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly
