I want to use my rode NT1-A on my laptop. how do i do so?
you need a recording interface (with phantom power if the mic requires that - most condensor mics need phantom power) to go from the mic to the interface, then to the computer. There are many USB recording interfaces - some easy plug and play interfaces include:http://www.amazon.com/ART-Project-Series-Microphone-Preamp/dp/B000K6B59Y/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1334413603&sr=8-8Then on your computer you need an application such as audacity (if windows), cubase, sonar, logic, pro tools, or any other audio recording app that will allow you to record and edit tracks. From there, you can install many different plugins or apps that can process the audio and add effects to the tracks like reverb, delay, distortion, etc.

Removing the silicone bag and not using a pop shield can lead to condensation on the diaphragm. Place it in a bag of rice for a day to dry out any condensation on the capsule. It may not be due to condensation though. Make sure your phantom power source is working. If possible attach another mic to the same source to see if it works. Check the contacts on the mic and also check the wire for any erosion or debris. If none of these work, fixing the mic may be beyond DIY repair.

It sounds like you have done everything right. It would be a good idea to check both the mic and Protools system separately. If you can, verify that the mic works using another device such as a mixer. Also try getting a level into Protools using another mic, preferably a dynamic which doesn't require phantom power. If you are trying to use an original MBOX under Windows 7 or the latest version of OSX then it may not work at all.

The whole situation that you describe makes me believe that the Rode mic is ok. Please double check your cables, the connections and the settings at the mixer that you connect the Rode. Also make sure that the phantom power supply is enabled.
