Scannning too slowly
Increasing the default resolution setting, would slow the scanner down, and also increase file sizes dramatically

Clean the rollers properly with IPA (Iso Propyl Alcohol) Industrial grade. Dot use solvents.

Ricoh IS450DE Scanner
The scanner glass is dirty. Its usually caused by a very tiny spec on the glass.
Clean the glass and it will go away.
Adobe interface issues
We have also seen that Adobe Acrobat doesn't produce very clear scans (with a range of scanners). Adobe gives very good pdf file size but it downsamples images.

Unfortunately, the message indicates that the internal startup tests have failed. If this unit is just past the warranty period, I would contact the manufacturer anyway and complain. No unit should fail that close to the period conclusion especially with little to no use. It is possible that a brown-out may have damaged the internal logic. Only a service tech for the company could tell you that. The blinking lights are an indication of the problem found. Report that to the company as well.

Possible wear and tear.
The image path movement must match the scan head
one has to be 'stationery' in relation to the other- It seems that one element is slowing down.
Is there a rate of travel adjustment to be made - check your manual
