My Palm Zire 31 had to be hard reset. Since then

Hi,i think there is a slight system hinderance with the synchronizing software on your zire,the problem can be solved by performing a system(warm) reset which must be followed by a soft reset,Here is how you go about it;
  1. Press and hold the UP button on the front panel of your device.
  2. Use an unfolded paper clip, or the reset tool at the tip of your stylus. Gently press and release the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device
  3. If you see a progress bar, keep holding the UP button.
  4. Next, the Palm Powered screen will appear. Release the UP button when you see it.
  5. Important: Perform a soft reset after the steps above.
  6. SOFT RESET
    1. Use an unfolded paper clip, or the reset tool at the tip of your stylus.
    2. Gently press and release the RESET button inside the hole on the back panel of your device.
    3. After a soft reset, a logo screen appears, followed shortly by a Preferences screen asking you to set time and date.
    4. All data on your device should be retained. If you do lose data after a soft reset, you may have a more serious issue with your hardware that requires a repair.
    Thanks and take care

SAVED FILES ON COMPUTER (XP) NEED TO INSTALL ON

This isn't too bad to do. Setup your new palm desktop so the software is running in windows. With your external hd connected use my computer or a file manager to look at it. If the files were just copied over to the the ext hd then you need to look for the directory where the palm files are located. It may be called palm or desktop or something you named it. That might be the hardest part of this ie finding the files. Now you want to look in that directory and there should be another folder or directory with your unit ident on it. So if your name on the zire is Fred Flintstone look for a directory called Fred. Under this folder there will be one called archive. This folders is a copy of what was installed onto your zire.

Depending on what you want to copy or reinstall you may have to do this in two stages. There are the normal files that are happy to just reinstal and there are files for contacts and calander which don't like to. You can try to install them but don't worry if they won't with the other files. If you copy the folder over to where your new copy of desktop is desktop will now see this as a second user id. You will probably have to rename it to Fred2 so it copies over. The game and other data files will just copy over to the directory under desktop called Quick Install/handheld. The next time you sync your zire all of those files will get uploaded. The calendar and other data files will have to be exported and them imported. So we load up desktop and open the Fred2 user. Click on contact, then under file, export, save the file where you can find it. Do the same for notes, contacts and tasks. I think you will only have the three. Now switch over to the Fred account. And import these files. Now Fred will have all of your old data. Just do a htsync and you are back up and running.

Its a bit of work but I never could never find a easier way to restore mine after desktop or windows or the drive was redone.

So what you want to do is copy what is in this directory

About 1/2 of he time now, my Zire 31 has problems

Either the digitizer is failing or you have a protective screen on it.

I'm not sur eif Palm is still supporting these of if they have changed policies. It used to be a set fee say $85 to fix or echange. If they still do this. then I would find out if they apply the $25 against the repair fee. You can also send it in to several pda repair places who wil fix it for a reasonable fee.

A Tx or Lifedrive is a better palm but can be worth much more. You can find those used all over and may be the way to go to upgrade if you want to save a few $

My palm pilot keeps telling me to , use stylus to

Either you have a protective cover that is too thick or your digitizer is or has failed.

You can try a differant stylus to touch the targets. On my 31 it was stubborn the odd time and would do this from time to time. With a sharper stylus point and being very careful about touching the exact center of the target it would get out of this.

My Plam Zire 21 handheld has worked fine; suddenly

It is possible that the battery has lost it's skill. If you can plug it in, either by usb to a computer or through the power supply, and the screen shows it is a goner.

The link below is for the palm zire m150 if your interested in replacing the battery yourself. The zire 21 is similar to that model so it's pretty much universal.

There is no response when using the stylus on

That can be from a few things. The digitizer or calibration. If you have a screen protector take it off. Perform a reset. Then run the calibration under prefs.
There are digitizers available for these from several pda repair shops online.

Are you trying to sync the PDA to the computer? If yes, the first thing that you need to make sure is the hot sync software should be properly installed in your computer.

The PDA will not respond if the sync software is not working correctly. Try to uninstall and reinstall the sync software. And try again.

Good luck!

How to sync palm data with Itouch?

You can sync to Outlook on the PC and then get the Outlook data onto the iTouch. If you have a newer PDA, It's install CD has a Sync options menu item where you can switch between Palm Desktop and Outlook. If you no longer have the original install CD or have an older device Pocket, Copy from Chapura.com It will move the Palm Desktop records to Outlook.

No Windows 7 driver for Palm Zire 21

Wait till one is provided by the manufacturer. Palm Desktop: Windows 7 compatibility Palm's synchronization software, Palm Desktop 6.2, was designed for 32-bit versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. Palm has not done thorough testing with the broad range of third-party equipment running Windows 7 and therefore can't provide assurances about compatibility.

I put a password on my palm and don't remember it.

You may need to do a hard reset.

To perform a hard reset:
1. Press and hold the power button on the front panel of the handheld.
2. While holding the power button, use the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press and release the reset button.
3. Wait for the Palm Powered™ logo to appear; then release the power button.
4. When a message appears on the handheld screen, warning that you are about to erase all the data stored on your handheld, press any other button to perform a soft reset.

My PalmOne Zire 72S battery won't charge. How do I

I can't get the back off my 72s to replace the battery, any instructions would be appreciated. One source says there is a third screw in the wire mesh but I only found the 2 lower ones. Also, I can't find the Media Icon anywhere, therefore I can't use the camera or download pics. I even reloaded the software to no avail.
