Hi.
It sounds like the drive belt for the player has either worn out, or has become broken.
The only way to find that out for sure is to take the player apart.
If the belt is worn out, it will be loose fitting, and obviously, if it is broken, it will just be laying there.
To take the player apart, turn the boombox around so that you are looking at the back.
There will be screws in the corners of the boombox, you will need to remove ALL of them in order to open the casing.
There may also be a screw or two inside the battery cmpartment, those will need to be removed as well, if there are any.
After removing the screws, the case should slide apart, but there may be retaining tabs that hold the boombox together as well.
The belt will be located at the front bottom of the boombox.
Once you get it apart, you should see it pretty easily.
Replacing it is pretty simple, you just remove the old one, and put the new one back over the capstan rollers and drive gear.
You will see how it goes on when you take the old one off.
Once you get it on, put the screws back into the case in the same order that you took them out.
This should get your tape player back up and going again.
Oh, you can go and use a rubber band if you don't have a replacement drive belt for it, just get a rubber band that fits good and tight when you put it on.
I hope this works out for you, good luck, and have a good day !
