norton would have the ability to determine if you have a security leak
sounds like a scam to hack your system
contact norton direct on their listed phone from their web site and not for any link or number provide in your notice
hi there.
you could try and do a restore to the last date it all worked fine.
or see if starting up in safe mode might help you find out.but i would try the restore first.
By now the top Internet Service Providers (ISPs) offer some form of free Anti-Virus - but many users prefer not to use McAfee or Norton due to the notorious problems of NOT being user-friendly. They can wrapped so tightly in requiring User Approvals that someone can easily click Allow on a wrong port - and the system is toast.
Avast! Anti-Virus is great because it is not invasive and generally runs in the background and does its' job without too much user interaction. Upon initial installation you'll of course want to configure which features you do and do not want. Personally I use the Professional Version, however the Free Versions has done my low-income PC clients very well! In fact I get less calls since I made the switch from AVG to Avast! - which is a double edged sword!

The program walks you through from beginning to end and their website is filled with information and your unit will constantly be in a state where it's ready to warn you of any harmful websites or file downloads.
Note: I am in no way affiliate nor work for Avast! Anti-Virus. I am merely adding tips in which I believe the typical user can greatly benefit from. Be sure to check out my profile, follow me, and keep an eye out for future tips!
when installing norton , make sure that all previous norton products are uninstalled correctly by going to the programs and features section in the control panel
Norton Customer Care provides support and guidance related to your Norton antivirus. A team of expert is always available 24/7 to assist you. Call us on our toll-free number +18002044427
first of all check if you are using the correct account information which include incomming and outgoing mail servers. secondly disable the firewall of the norton in the norton settings
with most security systems you have to uninstall the existing program before installing a new program
try uninstalling norton and then do a full installation from the disc
the problem with viruses are that they are being produced by hackers at a rate that keeps them ahead of anti-virus products like norton, and the rest
so if norton is not up to date or you have the wrong product ( norton has different levels of protection)it is a possibility that a virus can get through on the back of a e-mail or from face book ( anything that has a link is a potential virus )
from your description, I would be inclined to take it to a second authorized service agent for the laptop and get another opinion as to the problem as I don't think it is a virus but a faulty lap top hard drive ( retail shops seldom have fully qualified technicians for repairs )
remember that the best anti virus protection is you and if you get e-mails or face book messages out of the "blue" regardless of how real it looks , how inviting it is or how demanding it is , always treat it as dangerous and just delete it
