1. you did put metal plate in it or spoon in it once.
2. oily spot left without cleaning.
3. you can paint the scratched are after cleaning it. not recommended

Be sure you always have the hood / vent fan on when using the microwave or the stove top.
Also, there may be a clogged filter. Check that.
Otherwise, I would be concerned that the internal cooling fan may not be working properly.
