there should be a way to disengage the bobbin winder. I had a machine that had a switch in the center of the handwheel and even though it would be in the off position I still had to turn the handwheel till it clicked.

Tighten the screw on the bobbin, but only in very small increments. The bobbin should fall slowly under its own weight when suspended by the thread in it.

To loosen the tension, turn to the left (counter-clockwise). To tighten the tension, turn to the right (clockwise). If you think of the screw like a face of a clock, you should be turning the screw no more than 10-15 minutes. Make a single adjustment at a time, place the bobbin back into the case and stitch. > education-bobbin-tension

It should set the width automatically when buttonhole is selected. Set the length to fine stitch.

There is a button with two "prongs" or wings. Rotate the prongs clockwise about a quarter turn, to face the square mark (Q in the diagram) then press it down. It will stay down. To raise the feed dogs, turn the prongs anticlockwise (to S in eh diagram) and it will pop up
