Marantz Audio Players & Recorders - Recent Questions, Troubleshooting & Support

On the Marantz SR5001 if you get the "CHECK DSP ROM" it can be fixed by holding down the Multi and ATT buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. This will default any setting so be sure to know the correct input setting for your setup.

I have a PMD660 as well and from time to time a memory card will become "corrupted". During a recording last evening the battery ran out "prematurely" and when replaced, the 660 had the unformat error. Fortunately the card was readable in my Hummingbird card reader.

Normally when I have had UNFORMAT problems in the past I would just FORMAT the card with the computer and the 660 would then be happy with it. Not this time! The 660 still stubbornly displayed UNFORMAT! This time I ended up having to use Partition Commander to wipe out the partition on the card and then DISK MANAGEMENT in the XP's Computer Management program to re-create the partition and format FAT32. Normally when you FORMAT all data is lost so this would end all hope of recovering data from the card.

In the case of hoping to recover lost recordings I would have tried QUICK FORMAT and then tried to "recover" the data with a program like Partition Magic or Partition Commander or some other program that could re-link the blocks and create directory entries.

Check the speaker output settings on the receiver. The receiver may be in a 'stereo' or 'two-channel' mode only.

For dolby digital to work you have to have the optical or coax cable hooked up to the reciever ,The HDMI cable is for digital video and audio output but does not support dolby digital out the cable into your reciever , so just turn off the dolby digital on your reciever and you should hear the sound.
here is more info

Dolby TrueHD is an advanced lossless multi-channel audio codec developed by Dolby Laboratories which is intended primarily for high-definition home-entertainment equipment such as Blu-ray Disc. It is the successor to the AC-3 Dolby Digital surround sound codec which was used as the audio standard for DVD discs. In this application, Dolby TrueHD competes with DTS-HD Master Audio, another lossless codec from Digital Theater System.
Dolby TrueHD uses Meridian Lossless Packing (MLP) as its mathematical basis for compressing audio samples. MLP was used on the earlier DVD-Audio format, but details of TrueHD and DVD-Audio differ substantially. A Dolby TrueHD bitstream can carry up to 14 discrete sound channels. Sample depths up to 24 bits/sample and audio sample rates up to 192 kHz are supported. Like the more common legacy codec Dolby Digital, TrueHD bitstreams carry program metadata. Metadata is separate from the coding format and compressed audio samples, but stores relevant information about the audio waveform. For example, dialog normalization and Dynamic range compression are controlled by metadata embedded in the TrueHD bitstream.

If the sound test revealed no response from the left front speaker, it is likely that there is no left channel output from your Marantz receiver. Connect a substitute speaker to left channel output to be sure.

Hello Meredith, for what you are saying, you could have a problem in the cable that you use to send the signal you want to record, or the microphone cable or the line cable
put to record the Marantz, without any cable connected to the inputs and listen with the headphones, if the hum is, if not, try to change the cables for others of the same type, if you use microphone, controls the connectors, which do not have humidity or rust in the contacts
I hope you can solve the problem

Hello, as a first step, disconnect everything that is connected to the Marantz, remove the lid, let it vent so that the smell you felt, clean it, remove all dust, control all speaker cables, that have no short circuit or damage, if you use more than one pair of speakers, check that each one is 8 ohms or more, then turn it on and feel the smell and notice if you have the same smell as before, if so, you have a problem of source or audio output
If it does not, go connecting the speakers one by one, turn it on and check the smell, so with each speaker
if the smell is felt again, it means that in that exit there is the problem
I have searched many internet portals and I have not found the user manual, nor the service manual
I suggest you contact a specialized technical service
I hope you can solve the problem

Saludos Franco Dosil
