Has anyone successfully connected an external device to the video inputs?
First, the R/Y/W connections are "composite" not "component" video. Component connections are green/blue/red and are a superior connection basically on the same level of quality as HDMI. If you have your TV and VCR connected this way, it will not be compatible with the RCA Y/R/W. I think you are confused as to what component and composite connections are. If you are using R/W/Y, that is basic and the least sophisticated connection available. Further, if you connected this unit to your TV, then you would want to set its connections on "out", not "in", then plug them into your TV.
