On a lionel 2020 0r
The brush holders in the lionel 2020 steam turbine engine get hot after running for a couple of minute because they are a bit stiff. Some oil in between the holders and the brushes would enable it move smoother and ensure they dont get hot anymore.
Do be careful not to put too much oil in them and toy lubrication oil is recommended.

mcdevito75 here, Chances are if you paint them, they will loose value. Best Bet, check with an antuque shop in your area, or online at antique restore.com Hope this helps.

I have new tracks and
first you'll need to get a multimeter to check the voltage on the transformer to make sure it does in fact work

My Lionel GP-7 ( odyssey) stops and starts on the track.
You need to make sure all the contacts that meat the track are clean and free from dirt or other foreign objects. Or there is something on a wheel or another contact point that you are loosing current to motor.
