At least for the Model 5165, the "88" means there is a circuit error -- probably applies to other models as well. First, call Lasko Customer Service 1-800-233-0268 (M-F, 8AM-5PM, EST). Have your receipt ready. Lasko will ask for a engraved number at the bottom of the heater, may have to look a few times to see it, normally about the serial number. Hope this helps!

Requires a special security screwdriver. I modified a slim old screwdriver by filing a small V in the middle of the blade. You can also buy 1/4" driver bits at Harbor Freight, etc.

Disconnect power, (unplug); wait for over 20 minutes, (have a cup of coffee); Depress power button before pluggging in to wall socket . (This will let any voltages that are stored in the unit drain off). Plug in to AC outlet and press power to turn on. If this doesn't work, Lasko has a 3 year warantee.
