Isn't blowing cold air, clened coils, removed, dirt, leaves, but still no cold air. Seems to be low on Freon. How do I get the unit charged?
The compressor needs to run, does it run? If it runs and the outdoor radiator is not producing heat, then it may be low on refrigerant. The compressor refrigerant lines, the skinny gets hot and the thick line gets cold under normal operation.
To recharge the unit, it needs to be leak checked and repair any leaks found, then recharged. The refrigerant type used needs to be known, a manifold gage set is used to diagnose and recharge.
If you have a window unit, you should have it serviced or replaced.
My ac is not blowing
It may or may not need recharging with freon (freon is no longer legal to use). So before you attempt to recharge it or have it recharged, troubleshoot the following:
1. The air intake filter may be dirty or clogged. Remove and clean or replace it.
2. The cooling coils may have a buildup of dust and dirt. Clean the with warm water and a mild dish
washing detergent. After drying the coils, put a light coating of WD40 on them.
3. Cooling fins are dirty and need to be cleaned. Like a refrigerator, if the fins are dirty the unit has
to strain to cool. A vacuum cleaner and an old tooth brush work well ro clean the fins.
4. If the unit is in direct sun light for 6 hours or more per day, consider installing an awning over it.
Now, if none of the above increases the cooling output, consider having the unit recharged with 134a Refrigerant. This is best left to the pros, as it requires specialized equipment to not only test to see if really needs recharging. And if does, the equipment to evacuate the remaining Freon in accordance with EPA Regulations.
Hope this helps you to further troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.
