is this the kato voyager emergency radio? I'll assume it is. New or used? If new, return it. First, verify it works. Are you in an area where you can receive radio signals? Do this without any external add on antennas, just the original one. Go one? Now you can test the external antenna. I suspect your external antenna is shorted out. I see it more often than not. Redo any antenna connector you put on, be especially careful to keep ANY braid wires from the center. Even 1 will short it out. Test again. Works, you are done, Not? likely a bad radio or a bad antenna. Try another antenna if you tested the radio.

From owner's manual: Press CHARGE button, power indicator will flash in the display for 3 seconds, press number button 1...6 to select charge time from 1 to 6 hours according to battery capacity in flash time,otherwise the unit will exit from charge mode.
