A21 Home Error refers to the printhead not moving. Most cases, it is due to the fuse being blown on the main logic board. You have to remove the top cover. Open the clear cover, pop out the plastic pins, remove, then pull off the tractor knob on the right, remove the two screws at the top back of the printer, lift up the cover from the back towards the front. You will have to unplug an electrical connect ribbon from behind the control panel. Check the fuse and replace if necessary.
If this will not fix it ..it means that the issue is mechanical and this will explain the second error ..and the mechanical thing will be on the motor that drives the print head..

Dave, Its about time you had the printer serviced. Anyway coming to your present problem, Yes it could be both, the stepper motor as well as the drivers. The motor should only be replaced as having used it for so long it will not be a reliable repair. The drivers should be installed again as per the guideline in the following link. The reboots are as important as the drivers.

I'm regretfully informing you that there's no available driver for 2008 server 64-bit. The C. itoh CI 5000 only supports Win NT, Win 95, Win 98 and Win 2000. I searched every link that could possibly give us the driver that you need but, there's none. Please contact the manufacturer and see if they have an updated driver for your CI 5000. Thank you!

Turn the printer on, press the ONLINE button to take it offline. Press and hold the RESET button and press the QUIET/SETUP button. This puts the machine in configuration mode. Now press the FWD LN FEED button once or twice, then press the ONLINE button. This will cause the printer to print the current settings
