Hp Officejet 6000 not printing black ink, I have replaced ink cartridges, checked contacts, cleaned print heads, still not working

Try taking out the printhead and let it soak in "window cleaning" solution overnight or for about 8 hours. It should unclog the printhead nozzle. Put it in about half inch of the solution. It always worked for me. Make sure you wipe it dry un the back of the printhead when putting back into the printer.

Bottom of page is cut off sometimes printing from vista computer

I had same problem with Vista machine and hp c309 printer cutting off 1/2 of last line. Tried all other listed fixes and none of them worked. Eventually I found a fix that worked for me though.
1. Go to the control panel and select the printer
2. Right click and select Properties
3. Go to the Ports tab
4. Uncheck 'Bidirectional Support'
5. Click apply.

Hope this helps! It worked for me.

Hp officejet 5510 all in one cartridge error

There are several different ways I've come across which will resolve ink cartridge errors on the HP Officejet 5510.

HP's standard, pat answer to the problem is "Buy brand new genuine HP ink cartridges." If you refill your own ink cartridge or have it done at Walmart or somewhere else, you will eventually run into this problem. Why? Because the 5510 stores information on as many as 2 of the black ink & 2 of the color ink cartridges you have used in the machine - complete with an "expiration" date for each of those cartridges. You can refill them, but unless you clear the stored memory in the printer you probably won't be able to get around the errors. Even if you do, they usually come back in a short period of time. I know this because I own a 5510 & a 5110 and have battled this problem myself for a couple of years.

Short of buying "genuine new HP ink cartridges", using your printer for target practice, or testing it's aerodynamic design... lofting it not-so-gently from a 2nd-story (or higher) window... aiming for the nearest dumpster ;) you might try:
  • http://www.misterinkjet.com/hpreset.htm Scroll down and you will find links to pages for the #56 & #57 cartridge serial number reset procedure.
  • If the above doesn't resolve your problem, try removing both cartridges, then - with the printer still turned "ON", unplug the power supply cord from the back of the machine. After one minute has passed, press down and hold both the "#" button and the "6" button on the keypad and while pressing those buttons, reach back and plug the power cord back into the machine. The LED readout will indicate "Initializing" and "Reset..." Then, release the "#" and "6" buttons and wait until the machine re-initializes and prompts you to install ink cartridges. Reinstall the cartridges and see if the problem is resolved. The reset procedure, as well as other troubleshooting procedures (paper jams, ink cartridge jams, etc.) can be found here, on the HP support pages.
  • Another way of working around the cartridge error problem is to keep at least 3 sets of cartridges on hand, using the newest sets for re-filling. You may have to switch out 2 or 3 times just to get the machine's memory maxed out, but the third set should work. This particular method works best with OEM HP cartridges, but I've heard it works with other brands, too.
For more adventurous-techie-types, who can't resist tearing into the machine in an effort to resolve the cartridge error permanently, I found the following information posted on a DIY (Do It Yourself) repair forum:

The 5510 has a pair of 1.5v batteries which function much like the CMOS battery on the motherboard of your computer - they supply power to the memory chips which store the serial numbers and expiration dates of the last 2 sets of ink cartridges which were used. The batteries are sealed together at the top and bottom and are attached to a circut board inside the printer on the left-hand side. At a glance, they look a lot like a capacitor or something like that attached to the board. If you look closely, you will see the "+" and "-" markings.

Breaking the connection (located at the top) between these two batteries will clear the ink cartridge serial number info from the printer's memory - but be advised this will probably also clear other short-term memory items also - such as last number redial, etc.

The clever individual who posted this info actually attached wires - one to the top of each of the 1.5v batteries - and ran the wires out through the opening above the paper trays. The wire-ends are connected together - I imagine they would need to be held out of the way of the paper path with a piece of tape.
(M-I-C-K-E-Y...M-O-U-S-E) He, he
When it's time for a cartridge change/refill, the wires are disconnected to clear the memory, then reconnected again after the full cartridges have been installed.

I've read posts from people with different models of printers have mentioned installing a switch to clear the memory - a preferable solution than to have wires running out from the inside of your printer.
This is a widespread issue and regardless of how you resolve the error messages, one must always remember that when you bypass something that is built-into the design of an electronic device, you run the risk of damaging components. In this case, the biggest problem would be running too low or completely out of ink and burning out the print head on the ink cartridge; then you would end up having to replace the cartridge anyway.

Personally, I'm basically fed up with the way HP has been forcing people who buy their printers and All-In-Ones to pay outrageous prices for replacement cartridges, by building machines which generate error messages and reject refilled and non-OEM cartridges. Their drivers and software programs often have compatibility problems even with other HP products which are installed on the same computer with an HP printer. Too many problems for me - I won't be buying any more HP printers and I hear Dell is not much better.
While I haven't tried to jump out the memory on my 5510 yet, that will be my last and final effort before giving it the aerodynamics test... into the nearest dumpster!

Hp 920 xl ink cartridge filling instructions anyone have them

to refill 920:

1. If you have the plastic cap that covers the 9 mm. hole where you can see the sponge, then tape this cap to the cartidge with scotch tape. If not, use some duct/masking tape to cover the round hole.

2. Use the dry hypodermic needle to find the hole that will be found at the very center of the 920 label. With the needle, pierce the label.

3. Fill the hypodermic needle with 4 cc of ink.

4. Insert the needle 2-3 cm. into the hole made in step 2. Draw out 1 cc of air, then slowly force the 4 cc of ink into the sponge. Use toilet tissue to absorb any ink that might have escaped.

5. Let the catridge stand overnight (if possible) so as to allow the ink to evenly saturate the sponge. If not, insert it into your printer immediately.

Note: If you are going to refill catridges, be certain not to allow the sponge to dry completely. Thus, you might want to do step one immediately and to enclose it in a sealed sandwich bag upon removing an empty catridge from your printer even if you are not going to fill it immediately.

Scanner failure hp 6110 - Noise and stuck head

Thanks to Silly Girl, I've got my HP6110 working again! Though to be honest, I almost gave up after trying out her suggestion by cleaning the glass and it did not work. I then removed the slider unit from the belt and realized that two of the mirrors were foggy. Again I cleaned them with a swab & windex, hooked them back up and... still the same problem. Luckily, I didn't give up. I took the whole thing apart again and this timecleaned the camera lens with a swab and it finally worked!!! So with Silly Girl's permission... if I may paraphrase her steps and add a couple to it in case people followed her steps and still did not work. 1. Disconnect the printer from all cables. 2. Remove all the screws that hold the glass panel (you do not need to remove the one screw that's on the left hand side, in the middle). 3. Remove the plastic panel that's over the buttons just by popping it up using a knife or something similar. 4. Extract the keyboard from the inside by unhooking the lock that's on the bottom right of the keyboard (close to the center)and slide the whole board to the left.
5. Then lift the upper unit with the glass panel and place it in the back standing up. 6. You can now reach the inside of the glass and clean it with a window cleaner using a dry clean cloth. 7. While you're at it, push that slider unit to the left and lift it out; the left side of the metal rod is not screwed in. 8. Remove the black slider unit by unhooking the belt from the slider unit and gently pull out the electrical harnest cable (you might want to mark one side with a permanent marker to remember which side when you re-attached the cable). 9. Gently and carefully pop open the cap on the bottom side. 10. Once it's opened, you'll see about 4 mirrors inside and a camera lens. Dip a couple of swabs in windex and GENTLY clean and dry all mirrors and camera lens. 11. Carefully re-install everything by retracing your steps. 12. Reset unit by pressing the # and the 6 keys together while plugging in the power. If you follow all the 12 steps, I guarantee the problem will be fixed and be just like new. Thanks again Silly Girl for the wonderful tip.

Scanning Problems

Solution This issue can be caused by the way the USB chips in the product and the USB chips in the computer interact, or it could be caused by an old version of the HP software and driver. First, make sure that the most recent version of the HP software and driver is installed on the computer, and then try testing the USB devices and ports on the computer. If the product still does not scan correctly, a powered USB hub might help resolve the USB communication issue. Follow these steps to test the USB connection and see if a hub is necessary. Step one: Make sure that you have the most recent version of the HP software and driver The HP software CD that shipped with the product frequently does not contain the most recent version of the software and drivers. To make sure that the software is the most recent version, download and install the most recent version of the software from the HP Web site. The software and driver downloads available from the HP Web site include a Basic Driver option and a Full Feature Software and Driver option. The basic driver is sufficient to perform basic printing functions with the product. The Full Feature option installs extra software to allow full use of all features available with the product. The Full Feature option also allows custom installation. Follow these steps to download the software from the HP Web site and install it on the computer.
  1. Click here to go to the HP Software Download Page .
  2. In the Enter a product number text box, type the product model name (for example, HP Photosmart C3180), and then click Submit (c01425574.gif ) or press Enter .
  3. Under Product search results , select the product model name from the list that appears on the computer.
  4. Select the operating system that is installed on the computer. The Select Software and Drivers page appears.
  5. If the Automatically check to see if you have the latest software and drivers link appears at the top of the page, click the link and then follow the on-screen instructions to check the software and driver version and update the software if necessary. If the Automatically check to see if you have the latest software and drivers link does not appear at the top of the page, continue with step 6.
  6. In the Driver section, review the list of available driver downloads, and then click the appropriate package.
  7. Click Download Only and then follow the on-screen instructions to download the software.
  8. To install the software, double-click the icon for the downloaded file and then follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation. CAUTION: Do not connect the USB cable until prompted to do so during software installation. HP recommends using a USB cable that is less than 3 m (10 feet) long.If any firewall messages appear during installation, click Unblock or Accept or the installation fails. If the User Account Control screen opens, click Allow to continue.
Step two: Test the USB connection
  1. Disconnect all USB devices, such as printers, scanners, speakers, and cameras, from the computer except the mouse and keyboard.
  2. Connect the USB cord from the HP product to a USB port on the computer that is known to work correctly. Test the connectivity related functionality of the device (for instance: scan to file.)
  3. Print a self-test page from the product. NOTE: For information about how to print a self-test page, see the user guide for the product.
  4. Test the standalone functionality of the product by using the product control panel to scan a document or an image. NOTE: For information about how to use the product control panel to scan, see the user guide for the product.
  5. If the scan from the control panel works correctly, connect one USB device at a time to the computer and test the product by scanning from the control panel after each device is connected.
  6. If the product scans correctly from the control panel after every other USB device is connected, the USB connections are working, and you have resolved the issue. If the product does not scan correctly from the control panel or does not establish communication with the computer after a USB device is connected, the computer might not have enough power to run multiple USB devices. A powered USB hub might help establish or maintain communication between the computer and the product. Go to Step three: Use a USB hub.
Step three: Use a USB hub A powered USB hub might allow all the USB devices to receive enough power to run correctly and it might resolve USB communication issues between the product and the computer. Follow these guidelines when choosing and setting up a powered USB hub.
  • Make sure that the USB hub is a powered hub and the power adapter is included. Some powered hubs do not include the power adapter as a standard item.
  • When setting up the hub, it must be plugged into a power source.
  • Some hubs cannot handle more than four full-power USB devices, such as the HP product. To connect more than four full-power USB devices, use more than one powered USB hub. Most Windows computers can support a maximum of five USB hubs.
  • If there are multiple USB hubs connected to each other or if there are more than four USB devices connected to the hub, the issue might persist. Move the HP product to the hub that is directly connected to the computer USB port.
Workaround If these steps did not resolve the issue and purchasing a powered USB hub is not possible, the issue might be resolved by turning off the Preview option in the HP scanning software. NOTE: This workaround does not resolve problems scanning from the control panel. Follow these steps to turn off the Preview option.
  1. Click Start , click All Programs , click HP , and then click HP Solution Center . The HP Solution Center window appears.
  2. In HP Solution Center, click Settings and then select Button Settings .
  3. Clear the check box next to Show preview when scanning from the Scan Picture button and then click OK .
  4. Quit HP Solution Center and then try scanning again.
