Ipaq 1940 losing programmes during main battery changeover

  1. Plug the charger adapter into the charging port on the bottom of the HP iPAQ Pocket PC. Figure : Charging the battery
  2. When the power indicator on the top of the HP iPAQ Pocket PC turns solid amber, the unit is fully charged and can be disconnected from the AC adapter (approximate time to fully charge a unit is four hours).
NOTE: The amber charge light blinks while the battery is recharging and turns solid (nonblinking) when the battery is fully charged. In the event of a low backup battery warning, charge the unit immediately before removing the main battery to avoid data loss. To view the amount of charge left in the backup battery, tap Start, Settings, the System tab, and Power. Charging with the universal desktop cradle and AC adapter Use the universal desktop cradle to charge the HP iPAQ Pocket PC, or synchronize the HP iPAQ Pocket PC with a computer. Follow these steps to charge the HP iPAQ Pocket PC using the universal desktop cradle:
  1. Plug the AC adapter into an electrical outlet and connect the other end of the AC adapter to the AC connector on the universal desktop cradle.
  2. Connect the serial or USB cradle cable into the appropriate port on the desktop PC.Figure : Connecting with the cradle

  3. HP iPAQ Pocket PC into cradle
NOTE: The amber charge light blinks while the battery is recharging and turns solid (nonblinking) when the battery is fully charged. There are stabilizers located in the universal desktop cradle that assist in aligning the unit when there is no expansion pack attached. When placing the HP iPAQ Pocket PC with an expansion pack attached into the universal desktop cradle, the stabilizers will be pushed down by the expansion pack. To release the stabilizers for use without an expansion pack, press the button on the back of the cradle. Charging with the optional USB Autosync cable Charge the HP iPAQ Pocket PC using the optional USB Autosync cable by connecting the Autosync cable to the HP Pocket PC and the personal computer. If the charge on the battery goes below the 3.2 Volts as a result of not being connected to the universal desktop cradle or the AC adapter, no damage will occur to the battery. However, the HP iPAQ Pocket PC charge indicator light will not flash until the battery reaches the minimum charge of 3.2 Volts and a normal reset is performed. Follow these steps to charge and reset the HP iPAQ Pocket PC:
  1. Connect the HP iPAQ Pocket PC to an A/C power supply.
  2. Charge the battery to the minimum level of 3.2 Volts (this will take 5 to 30 minutes depending on the current charge level).
  3. Perform a normal reset by using the stylus to lightly press the Reset button on the bottom of the HP iPAQ Pocket PC.
  4. Turn on the HP iPAQ Pocket PC.
Keep the HP iPAQ Pocket PC connected to the universal desktop cradle or AC adapter when it is not in use.

its obsolete now, why use this thing? wait for battery? then post? or go to HP and ask them, we are not HP, this is chat bs boxes here. ever heard of HP? this is the official HP forum, try it? If HP cant help you who can, learn this ,when compelled to mess with obsolete products buy 2 of them for like $3 on fleabay (most are in the trash now) then mix and match parts, all day. its obsolete, so doing tests on it lacking full spares is impossible. why not buy a $3 used smart phone from same place, https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

Startup shutdown

a new battery tried yet, battery tests , with a volt meter only show if cells are shorted, or low charge state (SOC) only load tests on battery show weak cells. the top failure on something like this is the battery. unless dropped.(and any fail possible) HP has a real forum. why not ask there. but battery, is top suspect https://h30434.www3.hp.com/

How do i change the baud rate on the com port?

lesson 1: not all Uart chips are the same. many and vast chips can not do 115k buad. why not read the spec on this old long ago non supported device. or ask on real HP forum. this.>?>?> RS232 was my bag for many years, could make any work. Im sure this is in the manual , if I had a PC the book would be in my possession, at all times, why let luck rule here. the luck of find books on old products.>?? 168 page manual, i see, and no stinking index. wow. gota love that. no? rs232 . history, some apps set it others dont, for the who history of that. so if the APP dont that leave what, the OS, does it. end history. the manual stinks in this regard, http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00267893.pdf il now read your manual to you (google found it in 1sec) IDENTIfying the Communications Port You can identify the virtual COM ports used to create a serial port connection. You may need to identify these COM ports for activities such as printing. Use the inbound COM port when other devices initiate a serial connection. Use the outbound COM port when you initiate a serial connection to another device. To identify the communications port: 1. From the Today screen, tap iPAQ Wireless > Bluetooth > Settings > Services tab. 2. Under Services, tap Serial Port and tap the Advanced... button. 3. Note the names of your inbound and outbound COM ports. 4. Tap OK (and no other hits in this manual this topic) if you run and APP and the exit it and see the port baud wrong you learned your APP is no good. the spec page in this manual skips RS232 chip totally. my guess is HP thinks its not needed. one other hard thing to learn? is RS232 is Not TTL 232, RS232 real uses +12 and -12vdc levels, it bet your DEVICE unstated uses TTL232.. 5v TTL signalling. RS-232 is for modems, and has lots more wires that just 3. so if its 3 wire, (aka, 2wire Rx /Tx) its not ever called RS232 its and Ad hoc , 232. per the wiki on that... why not use a real PC to do this why not then use the USB-232 adaptor dongles sold for $3 use that to communicate, I can show you how to do all that. using any PC running windows, and 1 extra USB port. 115k FIRST THE CHIP THERE MUST SUPPORT THIS. THE OS IS NEXT... (the book skips all these details) and the APP is last, the APP must support it and the OS must let the APP, set it, (some dont, even when hardware CAN) see? i could not even find a docucment on what are all the chips inside this relic pocket, pc. nada, or id have shown the data sheet too.

IPAQ dosen't connect to Wi-Fi

how far away are you ? from the router? (11b hates noise) IPAQ are obsolete why not ask at HP, since its there old device. ask here. https://h30434.www3.hp.com/ i cant see your router its name, or its model number nor the wifi pages inside. obviously wpa is not working in the IPAQ or is not compatible. there are sub modes of WPA, and many old devices like this IPAQ do not support, back long ago that was COMMON. here is its complance spec. Compliant to 802.1b (EAP-TLS, PEAP) WPa one poster said HP-IPAQ-rx3115 is only 802.11b 11mbit (ONLY) so does the book that means do NOT TURN OFF 11b in the router ! hp seems to have deleted all support, only asking in there forum works now, zero files books. 13 years old this, is. i had to google for you, for the book. why not yOU? http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/Ipaq/IPAQ_RX3115.pdf so your router has broadcast SSID name. like ROVER and a password,? then set to WPA, (try all submodes in the router)??????? page 8-4 covers manual settings if wifi. my router a top brand, DIR655 has , mixed mode set, then WPA and WAP2 both on.... then wpa-personal mode then TKIP and AES both (my guess is you have this wrong) see how that allows older hardware work on a modern router? make sure AUTO channels is on, for up to 14 possible. i read your manual and it clearly fails to mention sub modes that tells me 2 thing,s its an old relic, and 2, has no submode choices only fixed mode and NOT STATED what it is, bad that. most old laptops do this same bad act, most. seen many, do that, infact some only do WPA and only 1 submode or only old insecure WEP. only lived that era, dont miss it at all. why use this old thing at all>? as street value of what $5 pack of cigs , as we used to say? 11b is 1999 spec (OLD) 18 years old now. run 1 band, e same 2.4GHz band 802.11b devices suffer interference from other products operating in the 2.4 GHz band. Devices operating in the 2.4 GHz range include: microwave ovens, Bluetooth devices, baby monitors and cordless telephones. Interference issues and user density problems within the 2.4 GHz band have become a major concern and frustration for users.
