Hotpoint CB 250 Nighthawk - Popular Questions, Answers, Tips & Manuals - Page 6
Hotpoint ctd40 will start drying then cut off after 20 mins or so. i have cleaned filters, resovoirs and tested the thermostats which are fine. any suggestions?
Nicky,
Do you have moisture sense on this dryer? Also, do you use dryer sheets? If the question is yes to both, look for your moisture sensor strips inside the drum. They will be a couple of metal strips that may be straight or curved and they will be spaced about 1/2" apart. Get some rubbing alcohol and several cotton balls and wet one of the balls and rub the metal strips. If it comes back blue, keep cleaning with the alcohol and cotton balls until they come back still white. Some dryer sheets will leave a residue on the sensors and it makes the dryer think that the clothes are dry and they cannot sense the moisture. Hope this helps!
How to remove top on hotpoint dryer HTDX100EM6WW
Open the door and look upward at the lid under the front edge of the top panel. You will see either 2 or possibly 4 screws that face upward and are screwed into the top pane. Remove screws and lift front of top panel. May be tabs hooked at back near control panel on some models. Top just lifts off.
Where is the reset button for the heater
Most dryers do not have a reset button for the heater. No heat can mean several things. !st--heater may have burned out and needs replaced. 2nd-- some dryers have a thermal safety thermostat that if the dryer gets too hot it will trip off the heater. Usually it needs replaced when this happens and you need to see why it overheated like possibly a blocked vent pipe. 3rd-- no heat could be from a bad heat select switch, a bad operating thermostat, or a bad timer. You need to have some knowledge to trace the problem down and know how to use a multimeter for testing.
Why is the outside top so hot to touch. It is 2 weeks old and Vents were cleaned before using.
DRYER OVERHEATING:
Heating Element
A defective heating element can make a dryer too hot. If the element partially shorts out, it can produce heat all the time, regardless of whether the dryer is calling for heat. Remove the heating element to inspect it. The coils should not be touching each other or anything else.
Other Causes and Conditions
Air Flow Problem
Dryers need good ventilation to work properly. If the vent is clogged it can make the dryer too hot. Clean all of the vent tubing thoroughly.
Cycling Thermostat
Although not common, a defective cycling thermostat can make the dryer too hot. The cycling thermostat is supposed to turn on and off the heat to maintain the proper temperature. If the thermostat is defective it may keep the heat on too long. The thermostat is not adjustable or repairable, it must be replaced.
Felt Seal
Most dryers have a felt seal at the front and rear of the drum to keep the heat inside the drum. If the felt seal is worn away or missing, the dryer may keep heating and make the dryer too hot. This is not common.
Blower Wheel
A defective blower wheel will not spin properly and will not vent the hot air, making the dryer too hot. Check to see if there is adequate airflow out of the dryer.

Hoe do i fix the venting hose
The dryer vent can be fixed with several types of product. The best choice is the solid aluminum pipe that usually comes in 2ft sections but will need cut to proper size and joined with metal elbows. Not hard if you are handy. Next choice is the flexible metal pipe that attaches with big clamps. Last choice is the Flexible type that looks like aluminum foil which also attaches with clamps. DO NOT USE THE WHITE PLASTIC FLEXIBLE VENT PIPE. IT IS A FIRE HAZZARD.
Have a Hotpoint Electric dryer. Does the timer in this have breaker points to send voltage to the elements?
Most machines offer a thermal device connected before the element, where, depends on the manufacturer and the vintage. I the system over heats and or is too wet, it will shut down the element before the element burns out.contact the manufacture, on the net, then click on support and request a pdf. manual of that machine. It shall direct you to the parts page. Then do as we all do, get out your volt ohm device and test the items.
Good luck.
The dryer is getting very hot and then the timer appears to be sticking at 20 mins to go. I have changed the thermostats already.

Hi there i just changed the belt on my dryer but the 3 wires that connect to the door switch came off.
ONE IS marked n.c for normally closed and 1 is marked n.o for normally open, the other is ur ground or neutral, neutral is usually green or brown u can connect the ground then connect the other 2 wires to the other ends, then push in the white button on ur door switch and then with a meter read the ohms on the normally closed connection? it should read closed or OHMS IF IT DOES NOT TRY SWITCHING THE OTHER WIRE CONNECTION AND TEST AGIN
