Harman Kardon receiver in protect mode. Removed
hi,
AV receivers shows protect mode , when there is a hardware fault in side it. Its a warning that some thing is wrong.
Noramlly AV receivers show this when any of the output amplifier get some problem. there are six amplifiers in this AV receiver. May occur when the output diver transistors of any of the amplifier become shorted. if the output transistor get shorted this will lead to flow of current through the speakers. To prevent this there is a protection circuit for each channels. One combined output of this protection circuit is connected to the system control. when the any of the output amplifier fails, the protection circuit detects it and switch of the speaker and sent data to the system control. when the system control get this data it will give a warning to the customer through display that PROTECT.
You have to check the amplifier.
for that you need digital multimeter, soledring iron screwdrivers etc
open the amplifier , then power it on. connect the negative terminal of the multimeter any where in the chase( metal body of the amplifer). then connect the positive terminal to all the output transistors emitter pin one by one . the voltage should be bellow 0.5V. If any of the emitter of the transistor shows voltage more than 0.5V., then that amplifier stage is faulty. Remove the transistors and check it. if it is shot then replace with a new one.
after replacing the transistors do not power up the amplifier directly from the main. You have to put a bulb of 60 watts in serial.
You can do this easily remove the mains fuse. put the bulb in a holder. now you have to wire from the holder. connect one of it to the one end of the fuse holder and the other wire to the other end of the fuse holder. Why using a bulb is, if there is any further problem in the amplifier stage on which the transistors replaced, there is a possibility of the new transistor get damage. if we use a bulb in serial with its mains supply ,when any overload in the amplifier occur the bulb will drop the current, by lighting itself.
After connecting the bulb in serious power on the amplifier. watch the bulb. It should light for one or two second and go dim . if so check the display, is there is protect mode is on or not . if not and come back to normal operation ,then remove the power , remove the bulb insert fuse and check
connect the power and check.
If the bulb shows bright light then there is some component also faulty in the same amplifier. after removing the power you have to check again the amplifier stage of which the transistor is replaced, for any other faulty components.
ok
Can you fix/clean an audio receiver remote control because it costs over $70 to replace?
Many time they are dirty inside. Look for screws first, but normally you will have to pry it open. There will be a silicon flexible panel with small magnetic dots glued to it for each funcion. The ridged green board that it touches can be very dirty, and the magnets cant make the switching happen if they are. Its delicate, but can be done. Spray electronic cleaner usually does the trick
Subwoofer - no sound
Had the same problem when mine first arrived. Unplug and replug the power cord at the back of the woofer. Worked for me!
Why Harman Kardo HK 3490 goes into DSP voltage protect mode
This amplifier can go into protection if one of the low ohm resistors on the power module that is soldered to the transformer is defect. Check out R951 and R952, they are both 0R47 (0,47ohm). They are often broken and measure some kilo ohms.
How can i open the "jbl on stage 400p" for
We just discovered how to break openthis mother. Use a flathead to gently lift the wraparound speaker cover from the lip, and gently work your way around the speaker. Underneath it you'll find a crapload of screws. Then go to town.
Harman kardon avr 151 stuck on tv speaker mode
Hi
Try this.
To reset the AVR's processor:
1. Press the front-panel Standby/On switch for more than three seconds to turn the AVR
off (the Power Indicator will turn amber).
2. Press and hold the front-panel Surround Modes button for at least 5 seconds until the
RESET message appears on the front-panel Message Display.
NOTE: After performing a processor reset, wait at least 1 minute before pressing any
Source Selector buttons.
Good Luck
Happy to help
Taking apart harman/kardon subwoofer
turn the sub upsidedown, carefully remove the clear rubber feet (these are a dome fitted over a mushroom top), using the toothed gripper cutout of a pair of pliers (when closed it is the eye shaped opening visible on one side), grip the mushroom firmly but not so hard as to crush the mushroom and gently ease clockwise and anticlockwise (the mushroom is at one end of a clear plug blocking access to the four screws that hold the two parts together.
Be carefull to use the correct size screwdriver so as not to damage the screw heads as they are tight.
On reassembly, you may need to use glue to replace the rubber feet if the mushroom becames damages during removal.
SOunds shut "off" when changing from HD channel to non-HD channel.
I think you need to look at the sound settings. In particular the type of sound. HD channels often carry AAC sound, suitable for Dolby 5.1 and Standard Channels don't. So the sound system will switch modes when you change channels. However the receiver is not switching back to picking up PCM signals, the type used on SD channels.
My Harman Kardon Go + Play won't turn on, it is
I concur with the solution route indicated by Louie Role above. I have a similar problem with our H/K Play & Go Wireless.
The problem in our case could be isolated to simply a bad power connection at the back of the unit, which connects to the 18 Volt high current DC source.
All kinds of strange problems occurred such as not being found at all as a BT unit, faulty connections, also that it may work at low volume but you get dropouts at higher volume settings. It appeared as if the unit has "power" (power button was white) but not enough amps to drive it fully or even to establish BT connection sometimes - requires quite a lot of current this little monster :)
Our temporary fix this evening is to just make sure the connector has some physical drag to the side to ensure sufficiently low contact resistance. This fixed the problem 100% so I'm sure this is the problem. Also tested it with a car battery and an 12 => 18v converter and it worked just fine, here the power connector was slightly narrower than in the original power source.
I'll fix this tomorrow by disassembling the unit and replace/adjust or re-solder the power terminals at the power connector. Not sure just cleaning the contacts will work since the connector feels a bit wobbly and this is not ok for this application - needs a really solid contact to deliver the required current to this powerful little music machine! Fantastic value I must say, we love this unit still after so many years so very happy to be able to bring it to life again!
Why is it in standby mode only?
Hi
Harman Kardon is in STBY mode because its in protect mode
it will not start until u fix the problem
so, what is the model number for your Harman Kardon .!
