Hello, Joanna - There are 2 models of Hamiltion Beach FlexBrew coffee makers: a 12-cup and pod machine and single-serve machine. Whichever one you have, I suspect you do not have the User Guide for the machine. Hello - Regarding any coffee maker - some of the water in the reservoir is turned into steam during the brewing process resulting in a smaller volume of brewed coffee. As for the Clean notice, it may just mean that the coffee filter basket needs to be cleaned. We wash ours every time after we brew coffee. Coffee residue builds up in the filter basket during use. my brewstation did the same thing. I put the water in the proper area, and it still stated "pour water" so I removed the water, took off the coffee basket, removed the coffee "bucket" and laid the coffee maker on its side, on top of a towel. I came home later that day and tipped it completely upside down (removing all possible water from the system)

To my surprise, some coffee grounds came out with it. Apparently, if any grounds get caught in siphon system, it can jam it shut. Then the system is not able to remove water from the reservoir, and thinks there is no water.
