Make sure the pin in or on the Agitator is not broken or sheared

It really sounds like the belt. You say it's in good shape but if it's loose or shiny from not having proper tension it wont have enough friction between the belt and pulley to actually work. If you've ever tried to move the drum when its full of clothes and water you know how much force id needed to function. Double check that belt tension and working surface.

If you try to start it as soon as it shuts off does it hum or buzz & won't start if it does you may have the motor getting hot & shutting off then when it cools down it will start again.
This is a pretty common problem. If this is the case you may have to replace motor. Also check all the vents the one going outside should blow out pretty good if not clean it out . Take the vent off the back of the dryer and see how much air is coming out be sure fan is working . May have to clean lint out around fan it can block the fan. Hope this helps Have fun

What is the exact model number? This can be caused by a lot of things and the circuit board is way down the list.

am I to believe that this is a agitator that sits on top of a spindle if so then try and move it by hand as some times the worm and gear cog in the gearbox become sheared or the drive belt is worn and slip easily not giving the power to the agitator I hope that's a start to go on eric

GE Washing Machines

Not cool not good reviews, your issue mentioned in several ways.
I have Samsung front loaders, love them. Direct Drive, amazing not brand new machines. I'd look at sears outlets they have tons of local stores no a days...

Most seals completely prevent clothing ie a tiny kids sock or other kids clothes. if it's bouncing about in side the exterior drum, something has broken and fallen inside there that shouldn't be.

Mine started with a wobbly spin, and ended up being a main spider gear that holds the wash drum inside the exterior drum perfectly with a watertight seal to a DD motor! A $240 dollar part shipped in saved the machine because the dryer has tons of miles left in it.

I used a video on Youtube to make the repair step by step including putting it back together again!
