I have a GB Instruments
You would use the 500ma range to read anything that is under 500 ma. If the reading comes up below 5o ma, then you can disconnect and change the range to 50 ma. I say disconnect before you change the range because it can damage the instrument otherwise. ie: do not use the switch to change the range while it is already connected in circuit and measuring in progress.
Remember that to measure current, you have to have the meter in series with the load and the supply.
I'm a novice at using
you would be measuring current
you would set the meter to maximum current setting
Then place the leads between the terminals of the fuse for each circuit. with the fuse removed.
so if you have a ten amp fuse you would expect a current either below 10Amp or at 10 amp.
maximum setting of current is in case short circuit to ground causes a huge current drain. To prevent blowing up amp meter of multimeter.
You may wish to put a fuse on the lead of the multimeter to safe guard your meter from blowing up in case you encounter a high current it can't handle.
if via the battery disconnect one lead and put a fused meter lead on the battery and the other lead on the battery cable. look for current drain while car switched off.
How do i check ohms on coax tv cable
That is not something that you can do to specification. The resistance of that wire is actually the impedance. You are going to only be checking for continuity by setting a meter to the ohm setting and then either short one end against itself and check the other end or use both ends and put one probe on the collar and one on the center conductor. The meter should swing all the way to the right.
