Trying to install - don't know which wire is the

Hi there, Without getting technical, I'm going to assume you have two wire's coming out of your fixture - which you've already identified as the line (aka. power/hot leg), and load (switch leg). And, you want to know which side of the switch to splice (connect/hook) these wires to? Well, on a switch, it doesn't matter. You should have two wires coming from your pull chain switch, right? If so, then connect one wire (fixture) to one wire (switch)  - and the other wire (fixture) to the other wire (switch). And you should be good to go. Now remember, before you begin to work on this fixture, to please turn OFF the power going to the fixture. I always do as licensed electrician, and I always make this part of my practice when helping others, that they do the same. Thanks! As I said from the beginning..."Without getting technical"; I'm double checking with you that you are absolutely sure that you have, and know - the wires coming from the fixture - are for sure, the line and load wire's. Because if not, then please contact me with the information you do have - and then I'll help walk you through with it. I hope this helps, and works for you. Good Luck! - JR

Gsw-22 nameplate data

It will handle a load of 6 amps when connected to 120 volts ac, or if connected to 240 volts ac, will only handle 3 amps load. Regardless of any rating on the switch, ALWAYS !!, SHUT POWER OF TO ANYTHING ELECTRICAL BEFORE WORKING ON IT.!! No hollering at you, just want it emphasized to be sure you stay safe, and alive. Look at what your powering with this switch for an amp rating on it. If amp rating is higher than switch is rated at, don't use it, in case of fire.

Can you describe how to wire this switch between

The 'comm' on that switch is very misleading. Generally that would refer to the white (or neutral wires), however in this case it doesn't. All a switch does is interrupt power. One black wire is power into the switch, and the other black wire is power out of the switch. So, all you have to do is leave the whites connected to each other, and connect one black wire to one black lead on the switch, and connect the other black wire to the other lead on the switch. Everything should work perfectly after this.

Wiring Door jamb switch

I'm going to guide you on how to create what is known as a "switch leg".
1- run a 12-2 w/ground wire to the light fixture from new switch.
2- connect black wire "hot wire" to the shiny bronze tinted terminal on switch.
3- connect the white wire " neutral " to the silver connection on switch.
4- connect the naked copper wire " ground " to the ground terminal on switch
5- Disconnect the two white wires in the junction box from each other.
6- Connect the ground to ground in j-box
7- Connect the black to one of the whites in j-box
8- connect the white to the other white in j-box
9- wire nut and tape all connections
Oh and be sure that you turn off the breaker before you start. Hope this helps. Good luck.
