How do people cook in places where it is hard to get gas or electricity?
The answer to that will depend on the area of the world being discussed. Depending on the resources available, people who don't have access to gas or electricity may choose to cook using coal, firewood, or they may use different types of liquid fuel. Kerosene appliances are still very popular in many areas of the world, and they can be handy for homes that already use fuel to power their oil furnaces. Both AGAs and Rayburns are powered by kerosene, and they offer many advantages over gas-powered stoves, as this page run by a Heating oil Yorkshire provider shows: https://www.solopetroleumltd.com/kerosene-yorkshire.htmThere are good reasons to choose liquid fuel over gas or electricity, even when the latter two are available. One of them is that kerosene flames burn much hotter than fire produced by natural gas, which can be useful when preparing certain dishes or when trying to make large amounts of food in a short time frame.

Coleman Peak 1 Model 400
I have heard two things that could improve your stove. I had the same "bursting into flame" issue last weekend while camping. First, move the black handle back and forth a few times. That is supposed to clean the jet. Second, take the generator off and hit it with a blowtorch. That should clean out the deposites on the inside. Or you can purchase new generators (just make sure you get the correct one).
