Problem: mineral dleposits. Just fixed mine.... DO THIS OUTDOORS. Add 1/2 c CLR to the tank, let sit for an hour, turn on, allow to heat and pump. May have to refill with CLR and repeat. Be persistent, and eventually you'll blow out a wad of dissovled minerals followed, happily, by billows of steam. Again, do this outdoors and keep the mop pointed away from people, plants and things. (I aimed mine into a cardboard box.) Follow up with a couple of tanks of water and pump until empty to clean out any residual CLR and loosened deposits. (I continued to get some black precipitate through the first water cleaning.) I will add that I began this process first with white vinegar, then with Lime Away..no luck put perhaps I was not sufficiently persistent. Or perhaps it was the sequence of attempts. (Also, do not take off the mop head...the part to which you attach the pads...it's tough to get off, does not allow access to parts that need cleaning (thought it would, not not so), and practically impossible to get back on.)
Alternatively, call Shark...they'll offer to repair for $18 plus $10+/- shipping, or may offer you a new one at "preferred customer" rate of $39.95 plus shipping. Good luck, and please remember to try the CLR outside.

I had the same noise coming out of the side of the canister although I would specify it as a sucking noise. The noise is coming out of a hole on the side of the canister. If you block the hole it sounds normal. This lead me to believe that there was no damage. After further research I found that this whole is actually a release when air cannot make it through the top of the canister. Simple resolution. Take the canister out of its holster and clean both the top part and the metal cone inside and your vacuum will work good as new :) ~=MaGiC=~

Hi All
Up Date on shark no steam no light.
The fuse that controls the steam is a thermal fuse, 192c ,10 am 250 volt.
Now that may sound strange to some one who dose not know fuses, but Radio Shack carries them and there $3 bucks!
If there is a handy person you know, they should have no problem replacing the fuse. I just fixed ours in about 30 min. but I work on electronics. If the Shark gets to hot this fuse will blow to prevent overload or fire so don't put bigger fuse in it!!
FYI you have to take All the screw out and open up the unit fuse is burried look for yellow clear film (thats the color mine was), the film is wrapping the fuse. Good luck

Well first off, I would not recommend using any time of steam mop on unsealed or natural wood floors. They will damage them because of the heat and moisture. If your wood is sealed then it would be okay for short amounts of time. meaning not keeping it in one position on a section of your floor for a long period of time.
Steam mops are not meant to Shine floors. They are meant to sanitize and disinfect. yes they do clean as well but if your floor is shiny after use then there is to much water coming out and not enough steam.

You need a little more leverage--either a strap type tool or a pair of adjustable width pliers that span the width of the cap. Try running hot water over the cap first which may loosen it enough to remove by hand.

if you use it for more than an hour theres an automatic kill switch located on the inside designed to make you buy another one , but you can take it apart and hardwire it to bypass that kill switch , and your steamer will work once again.
