sometimes the paper can get stuck way at the back of the machine out of sight and it might be all crinkled up and stuck , the noise that you are hearing at start up is probably the rollers going through a pre-spin check that identifies problems like a paper jam etc you will have to remove any covers and expose as much of the internals of the machine as possible and open and trays and compartments that will allow you to use a torch to inspect the paper route and follow it path

Printer manufacturers do not want folks to use cartridges that have been refilled and they deliberately design their printers to not work with refills. The way around Epson ripping you off is to use compatible cartridges. They are much cheaper than Epson and will work in most printers. You can buy them in bulk from places like Amazon. The cleaning unit may still be engaged with the cartridge carriage. There may be a release mechanism on the side of the cleaning unit. The cover will have to be removed to see if that is the case. There are settings that should allow you to specify the page size usually in the printer program that is installed on your computer as well as if you were using your printer as a stand alone device ,it will not be a problem with your Mac or printer but perhaps the instruction menu not been user friendly , I suggest you look at your printer settings in trouble shooting under paper loading etc or paper size as even the very cheap printers allow for smaller paper sizes even envelopes .You might try the print preview which should let make changes if need be .

Not knowing the program your pages are in it's hard to be sure, but if you are using Word, you can preview the pages and select the pages by number or select current page when you see the page needed.

For the black and white issue, check the settings and make sure that it isn't set on "sepia". As for the color issue, it is quite possible that you are out of ink. Printers may use more of one color than another depending on what you're printing. Change your color cartridge.
